About Steel Seed

Steel Seed — a gripping action-adventure game from the visionary team behind the critically acclaimed Close to the Sun, set in a dark sci-fi world where humanity stands on the brink of extinction. Join protagonist Zoe and her flying drone companion, KOBY, as they investigate the depths of a hostile underground facility in search of answers and the key to the survival of mankind.

DANGEROUS DARK SCI-FI WORLD AFTER BIG CATACLYSM

After a catastrophic event rendered Earth uninhabitable, machines took control of the remnants of humanity’s survival. The underground facility is a vast, machine-built structure designed for machines — not humans. Each region presents unique environmental storytelling, hazards, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. From towering industrial landscapes to eerie biodomes, the world of Steel Seed is as haunting as it is immersive. Explore a hand-crafted world filled with dynamic combat, formidable enemies, and an immersive narrative that challenges the very definition of humanity.

A COMPANION UNLIKE ANY OTHER

Zoe isn’t alone — her only ally is Koby, a prototype drone designed to assist her. Initially just a tool, Koby becomes a crucial partner, offering guidance and solving puzzles through environmental interactions. Though it communicates only through chirps and visual cues, Koby becomes Zoe’s emotional anchor in an otherwise desolate world. They create a formidable duo by working together and bringing something new to every fight.

STEALTH, PARKOUR, AND DYNAMIC COMBAT

Adapt your playstyle with a unique blend of stealth-action gameplay:
  • Stealth & Strategy – Utilize shadows, distractions, and the environment to evade or take down enemies.
  • Dynamic Combat – Face off against various enemy types and challenging bosses, each with unique abilities.
  • Upgradeable Abilities – Customize Zoe’s playstyle with three distinct skill trees featuring 40 different upgrades.
Highly interactive environments encourage creative problem-solving, making every encounter feel strategic and rewarding.

A THOUGHT-PROVOKING SCI-FI EXPERIENCE

Steel Seed isn’t just about survival — it’s about exploring the fine line between human and machine, trust and control, resilience and despair. Revised and edited by BAFTA-winning writer Martin Korda, it pairs an intriguing main character's evolution with a compelling and deep narrative experience.

A very fun and fast-paced game that was very good! I found the story very enjoyable, it was visually amazing with a lot of different skills that were fun to obtain by completing different challenges, giving you a lot of variety in approaching different areas in different ways. Very nice option to utilize your drone partner to scout, tag enemies and to use as a complementary fighting partner in the game. Koby for the win, da real MVP! I do absolutely recommend this game, way over my expectations!

After my first attempt of this buggy mess I managed barely an hour of gameplay. The controls were a mess and the story wasn`t appealing. Recently I gave it another go; maybe I called it too early. The controls are slightly better, the combat really wants to be The Jedi survivor series but falls short. Not to mention the protagonist flat out refuses to jump at certain platforming sections. After 10 hours the game has bugged and spawned me under the floor, overwriting every other recent save I had. story: 6 gameplay: 4 music: 9 Photo-mode works great, I have an excellent picture of me stuck under the grates, the last image I`ll see of this mess of a game.

I really wanted to like this game, but over a year after launch, it’s still plagued by bugs and baffling design choices that make me wonder if it was ever play tested. I can forgive some jank in a $40 title, but the devs made a lot of decisions to ruin it. The camera is terrible, constantly yanking your view in random directions so you get the "See what I made" shot. The stealth is completely inconsistent enemies will either spot you from across the room or remain entirely blind when you’re standing right next to them. Then there’s the droid. The developers tried to go for an R2-D2 vibe by making it just beep, but she has full on back and forth conversations with it. It just feels like the studio was too cheap to hire another voice actor. The final straw that made me uninstall was the platforming. You cannot grab a ledge unless it has a glowing yellow indicator. It doesn't matter if a ledge makes logical sense to climb or if you desperately need it to escape an enemy if it isn't yellow, she simply won't grab the ledge you have to jump high enough to stand on it. Being over a year old now no patch is coming to fix it.

Overall, I generally liked this game. It is sort of a scifi Tomb Raider. It is only a AAish game, so don't expect AAA production quality. The game play was solid. You platform around until you get to a "arena" type area and then you have the option of stealthily taking out the enemies or with sword swinging. The game play is solid, but nothing really stands out and it doesn't break new ground. The story is pretty meh, and the writing isn't quite there. It was just enough to make me want to see what happens. I mostly liked the mechanics of the game play. There were a few bugs I ran into. Teleporting to an area, the character would load into the floor and I would have to reload to a checkpoint which was a minor annoyance. There are a couple of areas that just tank performance. The game would run smoothly at 1440p and about 100fps on a 7800xt, however a few areas would drop the fps to the high 50's. It's on the shorter side. I hit all achievements and unlocked everything in about 20 hours. It was good, but not great. I'm happy it isn't yet another scifi game that just falls back on horror. If you like scifi and the tomb raider style game, I'd give it a shot.
