Beyond a Steel Sky

If you like the original, you'll likely be very disappointed with this one. Gone are the variety of puzzles to work through, there is just ONE puzzle, and it's the same every time, swap OOP functions on everything you find that has a highlight interface. It is the very definition of "one note", it seems all the effort in developing this game was just about the visuals. The original is still a masterpiece in spite of its limited graphics, I don't think this one will be regarded as kindly in the future. Want to learn more about what happened to Union City? Eh who cares. Want to know more about how/why Union City went full CCP social credit score system? Eh, who cares. All that matters is that this looks "cinematic" and "modern" to bring in a new, modern audience that apparently only cares about visuals over depth of content.

This sequel to the classic [i]Beneath a Steel Sky[/i] point-and-click adventure game is a loving homage to the original game and indeed to the era as a whole. And it's a very direct and loyal sequel, which is sure to appeal to long-time fans. Many of the wonderful characters are back—Hi, Joey!—and the game is crammed with callbacks and nostalgic detail. The writing and voice acting are all excellent, as should be expected from the high standards set by the original game. Fans will not be disappointed. Though it looks new and beautiful in 3D, sometimes breathtakingly so, it still plays old-school. Talk to people, find objects, and try to use every item with everything. You know the drill! That said, it introduces an innovative "hacking" puzzle mechanic that is quite satisfying, if somewhat underdeveloped. Indeed, a few portions of the game feel underdeveloped, as if there was an ambition to do something more with them but there wasn't enough time or budget. As a result, it can feel small and short. I loved this ... wasn't sure if I would after devoting around 5 hours to the first game in the series (beneath a steel sky) and finding it dull. This is a major step up from the first game in my opinion. Obviously graphics are heaps better, and the story flowed without feelings of too much time wasting back-tracking to fetch things (and getting lost in the process; a problem I found with the first game). The hacking and other puzzle elements were different and I loved them. Had no technical issues; it ran like a dream on my PC. Highly recommended to fans of this genre.

One of the best Revolution games.

First, note that this game is a sequel to an old point & click game that you can get for free on steam. You don't have to play it first, but the plot will probably make much more sense if you do. The first half of the game isn't bad. The animation style is nice and it's interesting to return to Union City if you played the prequel game. But at some point things go south. I have two main issues with this game: 1. There's a mechanic of "hacking" devices in order to solve puzzles by switching between functions of different apparitions in the game. It's not altogether bad, but it's being used to much in the game and some times it really feels like trial and error. Instead of using logical problem solving you just switch things randomally and hope something will work. 2. Sometimes you need to interact with character that move and it can get frustrating to catch them in time before they move just a little bit and make your interaction options disappear. There's one instance when it's extremely frustrating when you need to push someone in a small window of seconds and then wait for a minute or so every time you fail to stand in front of him in time in the exact place to do so. …
