What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Ship of Heroes receives extremely divided opinions from players, with some praising its retro MMO style, world design, and character creation as impressive for an indie project, while others report severe technical issues including account creation problems, game-breaking bugs that halt progression, an empty player base, and weak gameplay mechanics like poor targeting and uninspired missions.
My New Year's resolution is to have the guts of the developers how put out this game and thought they could charge real money for it. Seriously, am I on the Alpha test server for this game? It is empty, the most I've seen is 3 people. Not 30, not physically seen, 3 people total in the zone. The graphics stink, the targeting system is woeful, the voice actors sound like they handed a script to someone on the street to just read, the missions are far to few and painfully boring. It was obvious that this was never play tested or if it was they did, never listened to the feedback.37 found this helpful
I gave the game an honest chance. Repurchased it. Tried it again. Leveled to 20 in less than 20 hours.. I must've submitted at least 8 or 9 bug reports in just the last day before I submitted my review. Mainly bugs that stop mission progression. Edit: The developer fixed most of the bugs just days after posting this review. Mainly crafting is now working. Your character never changes. I feel the same at lvl 20 as I did at lvl 1, minus some additional abilities. The only thing that improves with each level is your health. Since enemies scale with you, you never feel like you're very powerful. Obtaining new spells every 2 levels and getting better augments are the only character progression. How did City of Heroes do it? You had to work to obtain flight, or another movement power. SOH feels the need to give everyone flight and super speed right away. So what you have is a homogenized group of superheroes that all feel the same. Veteran levels are definitely a benefit. After 20, you continue to gain vet levels which just increase your stats. So in a way, by end game, you will eventually feel more powerful as the mobs cap at lvl 20 but you continue to improve. It…29 found this helpful

Better than Ashes of Creation.5 found this helpful
IMO it's a great deal for the price. If you like retro style classic tab target MMO's you will probably enjoy this game. The level of detail they put into everything from world design to character creation to housing is IMO award winning levels for a indie dev studio. There are some bugs that may require you to abandon + redo a quest(maybe even more than once) but so far haven't experienced anything game breaking and the game performance is good(optimized well). Edit: Just encountered a progression preventing issue today with the quest "Showdown" that prevents me from entering(loading) the building. I do consider this somewhat game breaking because it prevents the completion of the Iris quest line. Hopefully it will be fixed in a future patch. Edit to Edit: They just fixed the bug for the quest in the update today.5 found this helpful
Let's be honest- if you played Champions Online, CoH or DCUO - you MIGHT have heard of Ship of Heroes (as well As other products, such as City of Titans, etc.). The game had quite a lot of potential- including, but not limited to having very diverse range of tactical gameplay with RP and Action elements, simple RP between the players , and even having potentially the best character customizer in the world of MMOs. The problem? Developers' untimely and inadequate response to the criticism and lack of self-awareness. The full semi-serious review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL-zi2ncrx8 some of the pros and cons the Game USED to have: pros: +Great character customization +interesting music choice cons: -salty devs -toxic fanbase on the forums -even more bugs and glitches (texture-wise, audio-wise, collisions, rendering, mission gameplay bugs etc.) -very Basic graphics, with some of the free Epic-store assets -terrible interface -boring combat and gameplay (IMHO) -origina, Yet not interesting story (IMHO) In the closing, I'd like to point out -most of the issues could be avoided if the devs listened to real good-will suggestions on timely bas…3 found this helpful
