Flesh Made Fear

Grindhouse tribute to Resident Evil 1996 that doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't overstay its welcome! As someone who usually plays with cam-relative controls, it was interesting to play a game that's exclusively character-relative. Controls and combat are fairly unremarkable but effective and a lot of the fighting is down to crowd control, as you'll face large crowds of zombies in the streets of Rotwood. Visually, the game is very appealing - aping the PS1, but not taking the 'emulation' too seriously. There's a lovely mist effect that coats the outdoor environments and the key and other 2D art screams 70s films and 90s games. Models are very effective for PS1 retro 3D, with effective animation. Interactive objects are rendered with a sharp red outline, which immediately shreds any cinematic or PS1 aesthetic - but it does help identify usable items! The lighting can be a little overly harsh, I've found, with the main character's chest-mounted torch lacking any kind of simulation of radial bounce light, resulting in most of their body being rendered as a black silhouette on far too many occasions. Music is good, but repeats a little too strongly - I wouldn't…

An absolute gem in the retro gaming world! If you like Resident Evil 1, you will like this for sure!

Overall a fantastic experience with many nods to the original Resident Evil. Art style is fantastic, fully voice acted and the hardcore mode is a real challenge. The game is wonderfully camp and cheesy and I had a really good time with it.

Однозначно да!

An incredible love letter to old school survival horror. The characters and writing are appropriately cheesy, the map and environments are very well done and the puzzles are satisfying. Enemies are scary and combat serves well. My only complaint is I wish the story was "fleshed" out more (pun intended)!
