I just wanted to get my dog back, but you forced me to completely devastate your monster organization because you didn't want to give my dog back. Was it worth it? For you, no. For me? I meant everything.

This is a very fun game for the price of entry; a Breakout clone that's oozing with the DYA charm of Bot Vice, though taking itself (somehow) even LESS seriously than the previous game! Two sisters are out to save their pet from the clutches of the evil Lord Vanik, nothing too fancy. Where the game lacks in story, it makes up for with a very generous amount of levels, collectibles, and cheese. There's an ample variety of power-ups and spells (my personal two favorite are Iron Ball and Dark Flames), as well as pretty mean bosses by Breakout standards. Princess Xasmine and Nabel are my favorites; real fun to learn their strategies and punish 'em appropriately! I'd say the only real flaws in this game would be related coin collecting, really. You get enough of them, a chest shows up. These chests are important at first glance. One gives a card spell that adds a monster to the bestiary, and the other is a shiny green gem. Except...well, only the blue chests seem to be really useful, which drop keys that lead to secret levels. Good, clean fun. Recommended for anyone who saw the trailer and went "that looks neat". It is! Bot Vice, an earlier DYA offering, was a pleasant surprise. Strikey Sisters establishes a pattern of high-quality games designed with a philosophy that puts the feel of the core gameplay first. A creative spin on an arcade classic, this feels very much like a late PS1 game that had the good sense to stick with 2D, or perhaps a shareware game that my dad would get angry about finding on the family computer after deleting it for the eighth time. Gameplay is approachable but upon mastery can become quite frenetic, and the optional goals offer a satisfying challenge for players who desire that mastery. It's also a nice change of pace to play something with low stakes after so many heartbreaking tales of betrayal, survival, and ruined cities. The girls just want their pet back. The script is cheesy, the voice actors ham it up - big shout outs to the power-up announcer for putting the stank on "Chicken".
