About 1666: Amsterdam

✦ AI summary

1666: Amsterdam is an occult mystery game where you play as Noa, a witch tasked with hunting down supernatural entities called The Originals hidden among Amsterdam's citizens, unmasking them during monthly reckonings called Esbats. Switch between Noa's spellcasting and her companion Aaron—transformed into a cat from 1999—to solve investigations your way across a beautifully handcrafted city that transforms completely between day and night.

Amsterdam, 1666.  A city built on wealth, power, and sheer will, but now fueled by a sinister force it did not forge…

Entities known as The Originals have lived for centuries, granted time, granted power, and the freedom to abuse both. That power is now owed.Noa Brooklyn was born The Collector, raised by the Zaindaris for a purpose she did not choose: taking that power back.

A city with two faces

Explore a handcrafted Amsterdam by day. At night, uncover what lies beneath its surface. Every facade carries a gablestone. Not all of them tell the truth.

Every name. Every debt

The Originals walk among Amsterdam’s citizens, hidden behind human faces. Identify them. Mark them. When the Esbat comes, confront them in their true form under the moon. Collect what is owed.

Your path, your methods

Noa commands witchcraft and spellcasting passed down through generations of Zaindaris. Each target can be approached in multiple ways. Strategy, timing, and choice define the outcome. Every Esbat is a reckoning.

Two characters, two perspectives

Noa is not alone. Aaron, summoned from 1999, now sees the world through the eyes of a cat. Together, they are one: Switch between Noa and Aaron across two radically different playstyles. One wields witchcraft. The other has four paws and flair.

A free Prologue is available now

Experience the opening chapter of 1666: Amsterdam. Partake in Noa’s Commencement. See the cycle span centuries. Choose the companion who will walk beside her.

✦ AI summary

1666: Amsterdam has an intriguing historical setting and witch-themed concept that players find compelling, but the game is still rough around the edges in early access with shallow combat, janky mechanics, inconsistent stealth gameplay, and underdeveloped character writing beyond the protagonist. While some appreciate the premise and developer's commitment to removing AI-generated art, most reviewers suggest waiting until the full release to see if the game realizes its potential, as the current state is considered mid and unpolished.

It looks like university assignment for barely passing grade, not a real game. Only thing it has is assets making it look good on screenshots.

i wanted to like this game. it is very jumbled and the gameplay is real work. from the fact that there are rpg instance where you fight to the clunky stealth mechanic. it just a all around slog. i can see why this game was shut down so many times. its simply not fun unfortunately.

I really loved the concept behind this game, and that infamous legal battle was honestly one of the main reasons I wanted to play it in the first place. But now, almost 30 hours in, and despite genuinely trying so hard to enjoy the story, the controls and combat have completely put me off playing any further. It's incredibly jarring to have such a laggy experience, especially when you know your PC isn't the issue. And don't even get me started on the fact that you can't even jump onto a random box AS A CAT?! The combat is also super mid. I thought that, at the very least, playing as a witch would mean I could actually cast spells, but noooo, apparently I'm just supposed to whack enemies with a broom instead. I really wanted to love this game, but it's just been such a disappointment.....

I am a casual gamer, and I played the demo for this game and it seemed like it was going to be fun- it was nothing like the demo. Combat level is Hard or God Mode, so if you're a story or easy mode player, you're screwed. There are a lot of enemies and very few hits you can take. It became very stressful very quickly. There is also a lack of guidance. I will admit I need a bit of hand holding when it comes to certain things, but I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get my cat to get up to the window when we were escaping the jail. I tried jumping on every surface, and what looks like the obvious thing to do, it wouldn't allow me to do. So I just gave up and asked for a refund. Games are meant to be fun, and I didn't find this fun at all. I will also never trust a demo again after this, because if I would have known about the combat being so difficult, I wouldn't have purchased the game in the first place.

The perfect game for spooky season. I'm so Intrigued by the storyline and where the plot is going. Loving it. It's mysterious and engaging and the combat is really smooth. :)
