PuzzleQuest: Challenge of the Warlords is a classic gem-matching RPG that players praise for its creative blend of puzzle mechanics and character progression, with its accessible gameplay holding up well years after its original release. However, the game suffers from technical issues including gamepad controls not functioning properly and crashes that prevent some players from launching it at all. Most players who can get it running find it worthwhile for fans of puzzle RPGs, though some note the core match-3 gameplay can feel repetitive despite the various build options available.
Game's great. This one won't turn on anymore for me, so its just broken.1 found this helpful

Very fun game if you like puzzle games. Very creative and entertaining.
I wish I could recommend this game but the gamepad controls seem broken... Very sad. the "A" button doesn't work unless I go to quit the game, ironically enough. lol I'm using an Xbox One controller. why?
This classic Nintendo DS game is still as enjoyable on a PC monitor as it was 15 years ago. Easily worth $10 for anyone who enjoys class-based RPGs and gem-matching gameplay (and is still worth a try even if Bejeweled isn't your style).
I'd rather recommend Bejeweled or Hunie Pop, unless you really want both lenghty progression and low skill ceiling (easy to get back on after not playing for a while).
Questionably-implemented variety
Despite RPG elements, most of the gameplay consists in the same primary match-3 PvE mode, which can feel repetitive and shallow despite the various build possibilities. There are different modes, but they are implemented questionably :

To capture an enemy, you have to solve a puzzle, a set amount of gems layed out so you have to clear them without any leftover.
To "learn" a spell, you have to solve a solo round : Endless gems, no opponents, you need to clear a set amount of each gem category, and retry if there's no possible move left before then.
You're basically forced through modes that you might not have asked for in order to unlock helpful assets, which can be frustrating. Bejeweled and Hunie Pop feature various "modes" as well, but do so in more clever ways :

Bejeweled itself is a collection of game modes, and you're free to play or avoid any.
Hunie Pop repeatedly cycles through modes, accustoming pl…
