Röki

I did like the charm, aesthetic, and folklore of this game. But I am somewhere near the end of Act 2 and I'm not sure if I'll be going back to finish the game. Some of my only critisism (and the reason I stopped) is that there are animations for everything and dialog and you cannot skip any of it. This is normally fine for a story game but when the gameplay involves solving puzzles and they might require some trial-and-error to figure out how the puzzles work and for the solution itself. For the puzzles and the various interactions need to traverse from point A to B, the long cutscenes and slow movement really matter and make it frustrating, especially when you know what to do next but executing it requires sitting through minutes of animations to solve the puzzle (I'm talking about the light-and-mirror puzzle but it applies to a lot). Also you cannot rebind the controls and they are not super convenient for me.

I wanted to enjoy this game, I really did, but it's like being told a story where the narrator leaves stressfully and needlessly long pauses between each line. Pure frustration. I gave up before I rage-quit. Too slow. I love narrative-driven games, but this was the slowest delivery of nothing and I couldn't bare it for than about ten minutes.

Great art, storyline, music, and puzzles

I had a very long hiatus from this type of game, and Röki reminded me what it’s like to 'actually play a game' again—without all the screaming, stress, and frustration. Although, I’ll admit, I did get a little frustrated with some of the puzzles that took me way too long to solve lol. What I especially loved was the storyline. It felt heartfelt and meaningful, and I found myself really connecting with Tove and her relationship with her younger brother. As an older sister, I could relate so much to that feeling of wanting to protect your younger sibling. I remember when my younger brother was smaller than me, and honestly, I felt like I would do anything for him. That made Tove’s journey feel even more personal to me. Overall, Röki was such a beautiful and refreshing experience. It reminded me why I loved playing games in the first place.

What a wonderful Adventure! Great story, challenging Puzzles with great variety in mechanics, whimsical and heartwrenching. Might be my favourite adventure ever. 10/10 no further notes. Applause!
