Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery

Stepped into the game thinking I will relax, paint for a few hours and drown in the beutiful ambiance of the game. While I got what I expected, I found myself smiling with the characters - then sobbing for them when the truth sank in. The artstyle and ambiance are gorgeous. The music is just spot on - and the story - just breathtaking. It is that sort of story you cannot tell others, you have to let them play it out, experience it. So that's what I am going to do - this is a must play masterpiece. A short yet charming little game, which will take you high and low, leaving you bittersweet when it ends.

I received a free key for this game from a magazine I subscribe to. I was promised cozy and cats, and Behind the Frame definitely delivered! I went in thinking this was a puzzle game, but its actually more "point-and-click" finding clues, then filing in the blanks. Gameplay is very simple, more meditative than anything. The art and music are gorgeous, and while the animation is limited it is beautiful too. The voice acting is...less beautiful, but fairly sparse. The story was not what I expected, and I actually ended up playing it through twice to gain an understanding (and felt kinda dumb once it clicked). There was a specific chapter where the tone darkened and through me for a loop, but in the end the story is very sweet. I would best describe this game as thoughtful and meditative, inviting you to pause, reflect, and notice the world around you.

Short, colorful and way more impactful than I expected. Loved the story on this one, and the visual direction is honestly gorgeous. Puzzles are simple, nothing challenging, but they fit the story perfectly and never get in the way of it. It's a calm, short experience that still manages to leave an impact by the end. The whole core idea behind the game is just really well thought out. Not much to complain about, my only wish is that it could've been a bit longer given how good the story was. If you like relaxing, story-driven games with a strong art style, this one's worth the short time it takes.
