They Bleed Pixels

This is such a uniquely frustrating experience. I enjoy the game- I had fun playing through casually despite it's faults and wanted to work through the rest of the achievements, but that's where I found seething rage I haven't had over a game in... maybe ever? The enemies, The basic enemy type stretchy arms guy, He's basically built to only attack when it's inconvenient. Placement ranges from pointless to incredibly obnoxious. The flying squid things. I hate these with my entire soul. It is unknowable what height they will dash at. Sometimes you will jump out of the way of an attack to jump right into one that was soaring harmlessly overhead due to machinations I can't decipher. Sometimes it will just match your height and not dash, body blocking you while you're trying to platform and forcing you into the spikes. Sometimes it will start and end it's dash too far away to be punished over and over again. but always ALWAYS in places where it's super inconvenient to deal with them. On slippery surfaces where you can't dash, in wall-jump sections where your horizontal mobility is zero. While fighting other enemies so they just spam hitboxes in the arena. The ghosts. game has a set resolution, causing all windows on all monitors to get rearranged when the game is closed. i appreciate that the game has extras, but the core gameplay is C tier at best. there arent enough attacks, especially midair. game has a sort of 'difficulty via being janky' vibe

Pretty good action/precision platformer. Though I expected a little more from the action. I also thought the main gimmick, the checkpoint system was pretty flawed. There are so many spaces that limit you from setting it that it kind of feels pointless. If the gimmick is that you're able to get blood to set up checkpoints wherever you want then you should be able to set the checkpoints wherever you want. Just make the checkpoint initiation a different button/bind to prevent accidental checkpoints, remove all checkpoint restrictions outside of maybe enemy proximity, and add another button to remove checkpoints and gain back maybe a 50% blood compensation to prevent softlocks. Also the first four hours of my game was glitched, it was running at a super high speed. I was actually a little impressed at how unapologetically difficult and fast it was at first but it turns out it was just broken, I found a thread from over a decade ago on how to fix it, apparently I just needed to turn off "V-Sync" in settings and it worked.

[i]They Bleed Pixels[/i] is a brutally difficult combat-platformer with a maximalist approach to challenge (i.e. "more is more") that is best suited for the truly masochistic people who fondly look back at masocore, but perhaps less so for everyone else playing in this modern era. First and foremost, I was forced to limit its framerate to 30fps in order to play closer to its originally intended speed and my review is based on that experience, although I'm sure that it may have had unintended negative effects on the game. For general players, [i]They Bleed Pixels[/i] could be a serious challenge with its long sprawling +20 minute levels (but with plenty of checkpoint opportunities) to be finished once and moved on. In such cases, the contextual combat controls and sluggish 30fps responsiveness may be a slight nuisance but doesn't diminish too much on the challenge of it all. However its philosophy to just throw more enemies, environmental hazards, and platforming sections at you, it leads to increasingly common impossible to survive situations.
