This game has an amazing atmosphere and a solid minimalist story. Combat is hard enough where you need to be constantly experimenting to succeed. The sound track is great, every move feels like it matters in combat, and it is fun to build your team. Overall, this is an amazing game. However, make sure to download the free chronicles DLC beforehand, or else you will not get the full game. Once you have it, click New Game: Chronicles and not new game. This is my one huge issue with the game. Not including that, it's an easy 10/10.

It's a classic JRPG with a timeless art style, if you haven't played it, don't miss it out. The issue that some people have with this version is simple, not enough changes to earn a re-release. The only mayor updates were 'voice over' and better graphics with the cutscenes still being in low resolution. Fortunately for steam players we have the MOD comunity, they made quite a lot of changes to the point of making a new version. The MOD is called 'Insaniax' and you can find it if you google it. Had to do quite a lot of modifications in order to install it, a shame we don't have steam support, making some steam archivements imposible to earn, once you installed the MODs. I only recommend 'Insaniax' if you have experience with other SMT or Persona games, not for new players. I also installed some other MODs on top of Insaniax and so far the only one I had issues with is the one that replaces MC model with 'Raidou Kuzunoha', that made my game stop when my MC got hit with a boss attack (Had to restart some fights from my last save file). The original PS2 version ran at 60 FPS, this one is capped at 30! (Maybe this can be unlocked via mods at this point) What a shame. At least the dialogue was touched up to be closer to the japanese dialogue in this release. As for the game itself, it goes toe-to-toe with FFX, and even outclasses it at some points. Atmosphere, monster design, everything just sucks you in further and further into the world. Some of these demon designs are outrageous! Some of the craziest things you will ever see. But that's part of what makes this game so cool. If you enjoy apocalyptic settings, you'll enjoy exploring in this game. A large part of the game consists of you running around dungeons and recruiting/killing demons. The recruitment part is very tricky and requires lots of patience, but later on your demons gain skills that make the process easier. There is also the famous fusion system here, which will undoubtedly excite most players. You can fuse two demons into a single demon which inherits the skills and some stats of the fused demons. I hated the QOL changes at first but they're super helpful around the end of the game. Voice acting is terrible and unnecessary but the game is as good as it was when it was originally released on the PS2.
