I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this as I didn't enjoy 2 that much. It's the same old turn-based battles but with a more fleshed out story and world. I'd have preferred a more complete characterization of the protagonists compared to the weird lacking snippets of personality in the game, that or they could've just stuck to pure silent protagonist.
Incredible fun up until the final dungeon. Made me get into FF.

FF3 continues the evolutionary nature of the Final Fantasy series. If you're playing through in order, like i am, then this game will feel like so much more than the last two. Expectations will be subverted (if you're playing blind) and the new job system adds an entirely new and interesting layer of complexity and strategic thinking. Do yourself a favor if you're going for 100% and make use of the in-game maps and bestiary as well as the full amount of save slots to keep saves at different points just in case you miss something in one of the one-time only locations (I had to do a second playthrough all the way up until a certain one-time dungeon just to encounter the one missing entry in my bestiary because none of my saves were from prior to said dungeon). Maybe play with a spoiler free missables guide if you don't want to stress out or if you want to be more efficient than I was. If you lean on the job system to exploit enemy weaknesses, manage your resources well, and make sure you collect the items and treasures as you go, then there's really no need to grind at any point. On my second playthrough, I felt like I always had plenty of Gil and an ever-growing plethora of …
a classic JRPG with some QoL updates. Solid choice and passes the $1 per hour check if you want it to.
A massive unfolding adventure, the classic jobs are back with a few new additions. There are a few moments that force you into specific playstyles, otherwise this is the best of the first three games.
