Nancy Drew®: Midnight in Salem

I bought this game I think when it first game out in 2019. I didn't have a gaming laptop at the time, so like most everyone else back then who played/tried to play it, it was terribly laggy. I ended up quitting very early on in the story, because the lag made gameplay too difficult and unpleasant. Well, I got a gaming laptop a year or so ago, and I recently decided to go ahead and give Midnight another shot. I played Mystery of the Seven Keys earlier this year, and found it to be a bit lackluster, so I wasn't sure how I would feel about Midnight. I might be an outlier, but I really liked this game. I have criticisms for the environments (namely how unnecessarily big and empty and unattractive some of the spaces in the game are), and the game could have had more puzzles, but once I got into the story, I was fully strapped in. I thought the puzzles were really good, the storyline and characters were enjoyable (I mean, who doesn't hate/love the amazing frenemy situation between Deirdre and Nancy, lol?), the smaller/more enclosed environments were pretty decent, the game actually runs pretty smoothly on a decent gaming laptop (there might have been a few moments of lag, but if so, I…

If your a Nancy Drew game fan, this game plays completely different from the games I'm used to from the series. The puzzles don't make sense, and often I'm not sure what the end goal is. The game played super delayed on my laptop, and there was more dialog than normal. I love these game for the puzzle aspect, not to just click through and just listen to people talk. I would love for new games to keep being made, but this style wasn't it... Very disappointed.

Always loved playing Nancy Drew, and this was not a disappointment! Can't wait to play the next one up!

I am a huge, lifelong fan of the Nancy Drew games. I have beaten and/or played all but the newest game. This is by far my least favorite in the series. The design of the game is totally different than the older titles, and not in a good way. The movement is clunky and it's incredibly easy to get stuck for hours or days on a chapter. Missing something incredibly minute makes it impossible to progress at some points. I'm not sure if it was due to a bug, but after three and a half days of exploring every nook and cranny of the map, I gave up on trying to get to the next chapter. I looked up a walkthrough, but from what I read there was nothing else necessary to progress. I think it's possible I encountered a game-breaking bug, Additionally, they changed Nancy's voice actor to someone who sounds radically different which was incredibly disappointing. After 20+ years of hearing Nancy speak throughout 30+ games it was extremely off-putting to see this change. Storyline is good, I dislike the new controls and not being able to check things off your to do list yourself. The notebook you usually have is not there also, and no Bess is present. I feel like they dropped alot of OG stuff. I know changes are going to happen, the main this is the controls, they make the game a slog.

I love Nancy Drew and HER Interactive, and I have recently done a replay of every game. This is the only one I didn't finish because it is actually unplayable. Graphics are bad, its hard to navigate, its glitchy, voice acting is bad, I don't like how the dialogue is shown, there are basically no puzzles.... its just really disappointing. And I hate that because a game about Salem would have been really fun. I almost wish they would remake this game in the same format as like Shadow at the Waters Edge or even The Silent Spy. I would definitely play it then!
