About A Golden Wake

The Roaring Twenties: a bygone era of glitz, glamour, and promise. Nowhere is this more apparent than Coral Gables, Florida. The real estate market is booming and even an ordinary guy like Alfie Banks has a chance to strike it rich.

But with the mob on his back, the Great Depression on the horizon, and the Sunshine State’s idyllic waterfront only a hurricane away from total devastation, Alfie finds much more than he bargained for.

Based on actual events and featuring real life locations and historical figures, you must guide Alfie on his journey to reach the top of the real estate game as he deals with shady salesmen, cutthroat bootleggers, corrupt politicians, and much more, all while swept up in the events surrounding the inception of Coral Gables, The City Beautiful.

I enjoyed this game, but others playing A Golden Wake might not connect to the story or appreciate it as I did. The reason this game and its story appealed so much to me is that I grew up in Miami, Florida, in the 1960s, and lived there until the late 1980s. My family home was 4 blocks from the Coral Gables entry arch, a monumental gateway built in the 1920s by city founder George Merrick, and 3 blocks away from Flagler Street in the other direction. My siblings and I spent every summer riding our bikes through the streets of Coral Gables to the Venetian Pool, our favorite summer hangout. The historic Venetian Pool, built in 1924 by George Merrick, as seen on this game's store page and in the game itself, was depicted quite accurately, including the surrounding Venetian-style architecture. The game is described as being based on real characters and events, although the story itself and the main character, Alfred Banks, are fictional. Side characters, such as George Merrick, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, and Fatty Walsh, were actual people from that era. I also recognized every single street name mentioned in the game and was very familiar with those locations, as well as buildings, su…

A wikipedia article of a story that skips over huge chunks of time seemingly at random, providing rudimentary gameplay in the brief sections that you do play. The puzzles mostly consist of 'put square thing into square hole' and offer barely any challenge. The game looks good and sounds good but it was just not interesting enough story to care and not interesting enough gameplay to enjoy.

Developed and published by Grundislav Games, A Golden Wake is a narrative-driven point-and-click adventure that transports players to the sun-soaked yet unpredictable landscape of Florida during the 1920s. Rather than leaning on fantasy or science fiction, the game builds its identity around real historical events, offering a fictional story woven into the rapid expansion of Coral Gables and the booming real estate market that transformed Miami. Players step into the role of Alfie Banks, an ambitious salesman determined to seize every opportunity that the land boom presents. What begins as a story of professional ambition gradually evolves into a deeper exploration of greed, corruption, loyalty, and the devastating consequences of economic collapse, making the adventure feel both personal and historically meaningful. The game's strongest feature is its storytelling, which skillfully combines authentic historical inspiration with engaging character development. Alfie's rise through the competitive world of property sales introduces him to influential businessmen, politicians, developers, and criminals whose interests often overlap in morally questionable ways. As fortunes are made …

This is a good game, it has nice art, a good soundtrack, and it blends the fictional, with the non-fictional very well. It obviously runs on pretty much any computer being an older game with very low intensity graphics. I also liked the story. I would recommend.

A great game about a man who starts a decent guy and slowly goes down a darker path. Very Recommended

One of the best point and click adventures I've ever played. I enjoyed every minute with it. The story really surprised and gripped me until the end and with the limited options available during each chapter I never felt stuck enough to be annoyed. Can heartily recommend it!
