About AWAKE - Definitive Edition

It was supposed to be a romantic trip… but turned into a brutal murder scene. When Marc and Caroline planned their romantic getaway, they didn’t know that it would turn their lives into jeopardy. Can you find a way to prevent this terrible crime and put the murderer to justice? Or will you forever be stuck in this horrific time loop?

AWAKE is an award-winning entry to Adventure Jam 2016 and has been majorly overhauled for its Definitive Edition. There’s a murderer out to get you, and it’s happening again and again. You’re stuck in a time loop – will you find a way to escape?

We recommend finishing the game in one sitting. It takes about as long as a TV episode.

“Awake immediately captures the player's attention with confident and stylish visuals, high quality voice acting and an elegant user interface, to the extent that you'd be forgiven for forgetting you were playing an entry to a game jam. But where it truly excels is in the “ah-ha” moment, when you realise that it's stepped beyond the bounds of a well-produced adventure, and into the realm of innovative game design.“ – Joseph Humphrey of inkle.
Short and Free
A interesting puzzle, I'm not going to spoil it with too much detail, but to say that you will have only a few goes to solve the puzzles, and so you need to focus and be intentional. And I guess that's what makes this simple game with cardboard-cutout like graphics actually work. It's short and once you figure out what is going on, it leads you on to explore all the possible endings. I think I found 3 endings and there are definitely more.
Noire
It is a rather dark subject, and the game is rendered to match in gray tones. Not graphic, but definitely for anyone who is into games about bad people. It really is such a short game, I found 3 endings in an hour, you can too. For more freebies that I have "rated" as being all about good storytelling rather than fancy graphics, check out this list. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/41773079-EmpathyGames/list/93017

The game has great visuals, solid voice acting, smooth animations, and an interesting gameplay loop. Sounds like it should be a good game, right? NOPE. Just because a game excels in the technical department doesn't mean it's fun to play. I went through everything it had to offer, but I didn’t enjoy it at all. You end up doing the same things over and over again - repeating cutscenes, listening to the same voice lines... It’s like the video game version of a movie "Happy Death Day". But while the movie was entertaining, this game just isn’t. It did have potential, but it was completely wasted. On top of that, there are issues with achievements. I had to restart the game every time I wanted to unlock a different ending. So even the technical polish isn’t as solid as it first appears. 4/10 – An underwhelming adventure game with a promising gameplay loop, but let down by poor execution. Took me about 35 minutes to get all achievements.

Short puzzleish indie game, nothing too special, but not too bad, was able to beat it in less than half an hour, it worth spending 20 minutes of your life I guess.
AWAKE: Definitive Edition — Played: 56 min | Achievements: 13/13 | Steam Deck: Unknown

TL;DR: A free, short point & click murder mystery with a Groundhog Day twist: repeat the same scene, change one action, unlock new outcomes. Stylish black & white (art-deco/noir vibe). Recommended.
AWAKE: Definitive Edition is basically “Groundhog Day, but noir”. You’re stuck reliving the same moment again and again. Each loop lets you tweak one action, and that tiny change pushes the story forward. Fail, get killed, restart the day… but you come back smarter. It’s simple, but it works, because the game is built around curiosity: “what happens if I do THIS instead?” The plot is a compact mystery (kidnapping / murder vibe) and it doesn’t try to be a 10-hour epic. It’s short, to the point, and perfect for one sitting—especially since it’s free. You can reach all endings quickly if you enjoy experimenting and clicking around. The best part is the presentation: black & white visuals with a classy, art-deco/noir feel. Audio is fine, nothing unforgettable, but it supports the atmosphere. If you like short narrative experiments and time-loop logic puzzles, don’t overthink…
