About Sockman

Sockman is a single-screen platformer inspired by classics like Rick Dangerous, Jet Set Willy, Manic Miner, Jumpman, Prince of Persia… A hardcore platformer, very difficult, even more than suck your own elbow.

His real name is Domin Dominguez, 64 years old plumber by profession. In the absence of one day to retire, Domin comes home from work with one idea in mind to relax in his place. But instead of fluffy and worked hollow his couch, Domin meets face to face with his destiny: a sock.

Sockman only jumps and moves left and right. Occasionally he talks, but usually never be. He can also dance and die a thousand different ways and heartbreaking. The truth is that no one has seen him dance, but say they probably will not do as well as die 200 times per minute, and with little practice.

Sockman not use weapons or mushrooms, or ocarinas, or bagpipes, or milk. Moreover, he does not like the nickname Sockman . Much less wear undies other people crammed into his head.

✦ AI summary

Sockman is a challenging retro-style platformer that successfully captures the spirit of 1980s arcade games with tight, fair level design and creative gimmicks that keep the gameplay fresh across its stages. Players praise its difficulty-done-right approach and appreciate the developer's passion project, though the game is noted as relatively short and simple in concept. The quirky premise about a sock-obsessed plumber serves as effective tongue-in-cheek humor for what is otherwise a serious precision platformer aimed at fans of demanding, skill-based games.

I have been a Steam user for over three years and have never posted a review until now, but very few people know this game even exists and the developer, Chema, spent almost five years working on it as a hobby project, so I want to try to help get the word out. Sockman is a spiritual successor to the 1983 ZX Spectrum game Manic Miner and gameplay is very similar. In each stage, Domin "Sockman" Dominguez must run and jump his way past one-hit kill enemies and obstacles to a key, unlocking its respective door–which will usually be as far away from the key as possible–to grant entry to the next stage. Wash, rinse, repeat. It's a simple formula, but the level design consistently varies (and grows ever more difficult). The game is pretty simple and short, but becomes difficult fast. The controls are self-explanatory running and jumping. However, everything kills you with one hit. A single misstep, and you will die and you will go back to the beginning of the stage. I wouldn't say it's as difficult as Manic Miner, however, having infinite lives, as well as no time limit or fall damage to allow the player to practice the game's physics without fear of inexplicable d…

This game is nothing short of legendary, don't let the title fool you, this game is to be taken seriously and is a lot of fun. It is a challenge platformer with fresh gimmicks and a challenging slant. If you like your precision platformer games tough as nails but fair as a virgin maiden, look no further.

Sockman, developed and published by Sockware, is a deliberately old-school platformer that embraces the spirit of classic arcade and early computer games with unapologetic enthusiasm. On the surface, its premise borders on the absurd: you play as Sockman, an aging plumber named Domin Dominguez whose life is thrown into chaos by the disappearance of a single sock. This tongue-in-cheek setup immediately signals the game’s playful personality, but beneath the humor lies a demanding and tightly constructed platforming experience that draws heavily from the unforgiving design philosophies of the 1980s and 1990s. The gameplay is built around extreme simplicity. Sockman can move left, move right, and jump—nothing more. From this limited control scheme, the game extracts a surprising amount of depth. Each level is designed with precision in mind, requiring careful timing, accurate jumps, and an understanding of momentum. Hazards are placed with intent, and progression often demands that players memorize patterns and refine their execution through repeated attempts. Failure is frequent and expected, but restarts are quick, encouraging persistence rather than discouragement. Level design i…
