About Gleaner Heights

"Today is another typical day in Gleaner Heights. I got up, went to the general store, bought some seeds, planted them. Cooked some spaghetti bolognese, went out to chop wood. Milked my cows, fed them too. Got in my boat, went underwater with my diving suit. Found a cave entrance, fought a giant crab, grabbed some treasure. Got back up, went to the showroom for a drink. I think the hotel owner's daughter is throwing funny glances at me. I shouldn't have gifted her that boot I fished out the other day..."
If you like Twin Peaks, You'll Love This.
This is the closest we'll ever get to a Twin Peaks video game, I'm convinced, lol. I absolutely LOVE it. There's a few things I think people need to know going in, however:
This game does not tell you what to do.

This game is very old school, in a good way.

This game is SLOW- you cannot rush it.

There are blue flowers that only sprout after 21:00 hours. Pick them, and they make GREAT early gifts.
There are things hidden in Gleaner Heights, but to find these things out, you need to befriend the people. This is not something you'll complete in Spring of year one; events take time to unfold, but that's fine, because this is a farming game. Try not to forget that you're here to farm! You have a LOT to do while waiting for all the secrets to unfold! Plant crops, fish, mine, upgrade your farm, clean it up, build up your skills, fight monsters. DO THINGS. Befriending people will unlock information, clues about who you need to befriend next, and slowly unravel the events surrounding the town. You need to actually explore, as well; there is no journal with quests to tell you where t…4 found this helpful
As a person that loves farming sims, sorry but this game is unplayable for me. Horrendous controls, tried controller, mouse & keyboard, nothing is fun to play with. Also does not look at all appealing tbh. Got that it's an indie title but can't even be ok with how my character looks in the slightest. Pass for me. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.1 found this helpful
Holy fidget spinners, I am trying so hard to get into this game. I want to get far enough to find out about the story, which may be the only hook it has. The problem is the game is just. So. Boring. It has all the burdening elements of an early 90s farm sim with none of the creative, fun, or engaging qualities. The map is needlessly large but has limited to no interactions or foraging, making plodding from point A to point B a grueling experience even with permanent run toggled on. The controls are clunky. The characters have limited dialogue interactions. There is nothing that GRABS me about it. I have to force myself to try playing just with the hope that something interesting lies ahead. Compared to stronger titles in the genre (Grimshire, Coral Island, or the GOAT Stardew Valley) or even the classics like the OG Harvest Moon, Gleaner Heights is such a weak entry as to feel like a waste of time when I could be playing a game I enjoy right from the get go.1 found this helpful
The game crashes when checking the calendar, and upon going to the Equipment tab of the menu after acquiring something to equip. It may crash when you level up, and it may crash when you're watering crops or fighting enemies. So far I haven't been able to get through a single game day without some sort of crash completely stalling my progress and forcing me to redo that day. I've had this game in my library for a long time, but I never really got around to it. I was hoping to finally try it out, but seeing as it's gone without dev interaction for about four years, I have to assume that these issues will not be fixed. Maybe one day I'll get to retract this review after actually being able to play the game. That'd be nice, wouldn't it?
Good game. I like all of the secrets I've discovered and I love my little farm helper robot. The towns people are also decently interesting. I'd enjoy more updates.
This is a really unique farming/RPG game and a lot of classic things are different. I really like it and find it interesting, but a warning. Without spoiling anything the game has quite a few dark themes of all kinds. So do have that in mind if you decide to get it. But in general I highly recommend it!
