the stories of "Lingering Fragrance" consist of three parts. here, i only provide summarization of them to avoid spoiling the stories further. [olist] [*][b]Lingering[/b] is the main story. it pretty much tells about a couple of students (the main character and his girlfriend named Daisy) who want to spend their remaining high school days before they separate because of having to go to college. in order to achieve that, they’ve booked a 2-day trip to a luxurious resort. although they can only afford free facilities there, they try their best to spend all they have until the very last moment. the couple also know very well that they probably won’t meet and remember each other anymore. [*][b]Fragrance[/b] is the first alternative story. it provides a new route of the MC’s life, in which he becomes a part of exiled community known as “Nothing” and lives in the dumping ground. when he managed to escape after having been there for so long, he meets a random girl. the further he interacts with her, the more he imagines of Daisy. for me, this is the most depressing part. [*][b]Nothing[/b] is the concluding part. it tells about the MC who initially lived normally for most of his life, but …

Nice short visual novel set in an intriguing dystopian world, with a clever twist! At first I rather disliked the generic writing, however I found it progressively more captivating and towards the end my initial critical impression of it even got justified in the lore. I really like the world-building, it's brief due to the short length, yet still managed to immerse me, I would love to find out more about the sci-fi dystopia since the concept of it is really interesting. I cannot say much about the plot without spoilering, but it definitely managed to shock and impress me eventually, despite not expecting much in the beginning. I truly love the idea of the story! The art is pretty, supported by great music. I quite enjoyed the peaceful and simultaneously suffocating/tense atmosphere!

A short visual novel with a good story. It's a cheery facade with a bleak underside, and while the translation isn't perfect it doesn't lose the meanings it's trying to convey. Is it perfect? No, but it's cheap and the story was interesting enough.
