The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2

Gorgeous animation and cerebral gameplay

this was my 1st Steam game and I have very fond memories of playing it. bizarre and unique story, artfully executed, charming and disturbing all at once. 9/10

In short, second attempt at trying to finish this game,...it starts out strong. The final chapters however are painful, uninspired, bloated, unnecessarily long and its clear the designer ran out of ideas. I'm guessing this is why we haven't seen anything else from this creator. It's also somewhat annoying the some of the puzzles involve single use game mechanics that you are not made aware of and its by accident that you stumble upon them.

The first few chapters were great but I'm in chapter 4 and it keeps crashing every time I do anything. I guess there's nothing left to do except uninstall because the game is literally unplayable. I have tried multiple times to do things and if I don't save often enough I lose an hours worth of progress or more each time it crashes. I probably would have recommended this game if it didn't keep crashing.

This game is really cool, it has an incredible atmosphere and I felt engaged the entire time. I didn't experience any issues with crashing, there were some slight lag issues with some mini games but that may be because I'm a bit of a button smasher when I don't know what to do. None of the puzzles were too difficult, but challenging enough to still be entertaining and feel fulfilling. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys point and click games and likes to discover things at a slightly slower pace.

Great journey but a supremely lackluster ending and nonstop crashes along the way mean I wouldn't recommend this anymore in 2026
