Mibibli's Quest is a retro-style surrealistic platformer game. Join everybody's favorite poorly-drawn 8-bit character, Mibibli, as it blasts its way through over 20 crazy and eclectic levels designed to challenge even the fiercest wayward retro warrior. Conquer caves, dance through raves, wander the suburbs, and blow up eggs... travel through time and explore your nightmares along the way! Collect power ups and find the secrets that are scattered throughout this world. Each level has it's own collection of enemies, unique gimmicks, and bizarre characters to meet. Pay heed to their quizzical insights and use it to demolish bosses and ultimately defeat Mibibli's arch-nemesis, Crocodibli!

This unique, colorful, and eccentric game has been described as "Mega Man" meets "Space Funeral." The soundtrack was inspired by catchy retro NES tunes, but is interspersed by instrumental oddities. Submersive and subversive, it is truly a gaming experience that will leave a lasting impression on your mind!

✦ AI summary

Mibibli's Quest is a deliberately unconventional and surreal indie platformer that embraces chaos and creative weirdness, earning praise for its unique gimmicks, bizarre level variety, and distinctive personality that sets it apart from traditional retro platformers. However, players consistently warn that the game is extremely challenging with punishing difficulty and sparse checkpoints, making it inaccessible to most players unless they opt for easier difficulty modes, though some appreciate the high-quality music and find the experience rewarding if you're willing to invest the time.

Mibibli's Quest is a sort of abstract satire of the genre of "Nintendo Hard" NES retro platformers that were prevalent in the indie game scene at the time this was made. The game is also fascinating from the perspective of how the duo of Resni and Jars' collaboration in game dev would work to enhance the strangeness of their work while also muting some of the more obviously 'game-ified' aspects on display here, specifically things like difficulty settings locking you out of True endings and so forth. From the moment you boot up the game the opening level ART ZONE immediately starts toying with your expectations. Mibibli has a projectile attack that is sort of like the inverse of the attack from Gimmick!, where you shoot in a straight line ignoring the level's geometry and the bullet immediately drops altitude and hits anything underneath it. Naturally, you beat bosses to unlock more bullet patterns, each with their own upsides and downsides. Your 'archenemy' in the game is a crocodile with nice hair who humiliates and demeans you regularly but in a sarcastic sort of way, but you begin to notice that more often than not Mibibli's biggest enemy is Mibibli itself. The ending of the ga…

Mibibli's Quest really highlights the creative freedom that comes with being "crappy" By bucking traditional convention constantly it creates gameplay scenarios so unlike anything I've ever seen in a platformer, playing through it for the first time was an absolute joy just to see what new ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ would happen to me next and it rarely disappointed. If I were to be a huge loser about it I'd compare it favorably to Cruelty Squad or the works of thecatamites (Space Funeral, Anthology of the Killer) so if you're a fan of those you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Mibibli's Quest is an indie action-platformer that proudly embraces chaos, oddity, and old-school challenge. Developed and published by resnijars, the game initially appears to be a simple retro throwback, but it quickly establishes itself as something much stranger. Rather than following the familiar formula of many pixel-art platformers, it throws players into a surreal adventure where nearly every stage introduces a new surprise. From underground caverns and suburban neighborhoods to psychedelic dance sequences and unsettling dreamscapes, the game presents an experience that feels intentionally unpredictable from beginning to end. The story centers on Mibibli, a crudely designed hero whose appearance perfectly reflects the game's unconventional personality. While narrative takes a backseat to gameplay, the journey itself becomes the attraction. The Steam description promises a wide range of locations and scenarios, and the title delivers on that ambition with more than twenty handcrafted levels. Each area carries its own identity, often accompanied by mechanics that differ dramatically from previous stages. This constant reinvention keeps the pacing fresh and encourages players…

i wouldn't recommend it to most people, because most people won't be able to actually finish this game, at least not on the "regular" difficulty. if you really want to see everything and aren't willing to spend time repeating levels constantly due to the sparse checkpoints and low amount of health, you're gonna need to play on the easier difficulties. being the stubborn ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I am, i plan on not taking my own advice. but to everyone else, this has a lot of stuff that point to signs of greatness. really unique gimmicks and ideas that I haven't seen any other platformer do. some tracks for this game are REALLY good, but a lot of it is just ok. it has a sense of humor i vibe with, and overall has a real personality that I really enjoy getting to see. that is, when the level design isn't almost rage game territory. it's not quite "I Wanna Be The Guy" level, but it can come pretty close at times. I find that once I play a level enough, I can clear a lot of it without getting hit once. That should tell you that the game isn't necessarily difficult because of the design being genuinely challenging, which it can be at times, but because you need to know what the trick is to act…
