About Hack RUN

Ever wanted to be a hacker? Hack your way into the heart of a mysterious organization to uncover their secrets. Hack RUN® is a game which uses 'old school' command prompts (like DOS or UNIX) that simulate a real operating system. Learn the commands of each system to help you navigate through your adventure.

As you hack into their systems, you will learn about the organization and the people who work there. Read files and emails to find clues and riddles which will give you access to more accounts. Data found on their systems will help you learn about the motives of the organization, and how dark their plans can get. You may also discover dirty little secrets about the employees as well.

Hacking into new accounts or discovering key information will increase your skill level. As you achieve your goals, you will move closer and closer to the final achievement; over 50 levels deep!

It's time for a Hack RUN!

Hack RUN approaches the fantasy of computer hacking from a deliberately minimalist direction, abandoning elaborate cyberpunk graphics in favor of an old-school command-line environment. Developed and published by i273 LLC, it is essentially a text-driven hacking adventure built around investigation, puzzle solving, and careful observation. The simplicity of its appearance might initially suggest a very small experience, but the terminal interface is actually central to its identity. Rather than watching a fictional hacker perform impressive actions automatically, players personally enter commands, explore digital locations, and gradually learn how each simulated system functions. The premise revolves around infiltrating a mysterious organization and discovering what it is hiding. Instead of explaining everything through conventional dialogue or cinematic sequences, the story is scattered throughout the computer systems players penetrate. Files, emails, accounts, passwords, and other pieces of information gradually reveal both the organization's activities and the personalities of the people working there. This method makes exploration feel appropriately intrusive, as though the pl…

I don't like to leave negative reviews but I really can't recommend this game unless you're really bored and have nothing better to do for a few hours. Anyway, the subject matter of hacking sounded interesting so I thought I'd give it a ago but "hacking" is very much a stretch... really you're just mostly reading email looking for a clue to a password for the next person to "hack". There's no real puzzle here, some guy likes baseball so his password is literally "baseball". Yup, it's that simple and other than a few mild deviations, that's the bulk of the game. I guess it was mildly entertaining but the story that was uncovered as you progress is kinda silly. I know it's a free game and that is to it's credit, but still, there are many other free games out there that will give you far more entertainment value than this one.

It's a nice short game, it has interesting plot and it's a fun way to pass a couple of hours. You need a lot of observation skills, otherwise you miss important details, that help you advance the game.

Hack RUN is a really unusual adventure game because almost the entire thing takes place through a fake command line. I am basically sitting in front of an old school terminal and trying to break into the systems of a mysterious organisation called RUN. There are no normal levels to walk through and no character running around a map. Instead, I have to type commands, search through accounts, read emails and files and use the information I find to work out where I should go next. It sounds extremely basic, but once I get into the idea, it becomes surprisingly easy to lose myself in it. The best part for me is how the game makes reading and paying attention feel like actual gameplay. I am not just being given a list of objectives and told exactly what to do. I have to look through emails, notice names and passwords, find clues and work out how different pieces of information connect. Sometimes the answer is obvious, while other times I have to stop and think about what I have already discovered. I like that the game slowly teaches me its command system as I go, so I do not need to already know how to use a real terminal before starting. The story is also a big reason I kept going. I…

Enjoyed this fun wee puzzle game! You don't need any hacking experience of course, just bring curiousity and you'll be set.

The game is clever, very much so that the hints inside the hints are pretty unique if you're not reading between the lines. I am enjoy it so far. Will have to restart it to actually follow through and write all the notes properly.
