Desktop Hacker

Very nice hacking game. Very causal, good little story. Enjoyed it a lot.

This fills a niche. Kind of a entree into hacking games. Contrary to many other hacking games, this one doesn't rush you or tries to artificially make things exciting just by putting you on a clock or other time-limits. I like the focus on the console. The introduction of tools is nice and gradual and the length is quite good too. There's some breathing room with the mission board and the ability to ignore the chat towards the end. There's a reasonable amount of mystery and things to discover. Like reading the files to download even if not instructed to and story seems above average when it comes to hacking games. If you are intrigued by hacking games but never gave it a try, this one is surely worth picking up. Also, even though other hacking games might be extensible, in the core they stay the same, so it's nice to see someone try to mix it up a bit.

Game isn't bad... I enjoyed many of the game play elements (except for pandora). I even found the story enjoyable. With that said the game doesn't feel finished. There are features that don't feel fully realized. It is also buggy. Some are just annoying (Terminal text disappearing and not coming back till you restart the game) Some game breaking (I just somehow lost my save file after opting to save Mike - not willing to play through the last 3 hours again so sadly that has ended my journey with this game) Overall the concept is good and I hope the developer continues to work on the game and iron out so of its' issues. I recommend this game but you should absolutely BACKUP your save so you don't end up like me.

A neat little story-driven hacking game. Does away with the time pressures a lot of other hacking games have, which I appreciate. The game does tell you what to do a lot, at least early on in the game, so if you're looking for more puzzle/challenge than story that's something to be aware of.

Feels unfinished. At first it's extremely simplistic but mostly fine, but once you get the graphical hacking interface you're thrown into a new gameplay system that is not explained or documented at all. There are other systems that are nothing but useless annoyances too - notably how you can go to sleep, and the game forces you to do so by continually dimming the screen as you play, with the only way to reset it being to sleep. But the time-of-day system doesn't seem to do anything else, so it's just a pointless distraction. The hacking is neither realistic nor fun, and the story, as far as I got, is very generic and not especially well-written. This seems like something that should be in the first stages of Early Access, not a "complete" released game.
