About Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves

✦ AI summary

Set traps and use cunning tactics to survive nightly werewolf attacks in this action-strategy hybrid where outwitting supernatural enemies matters more than raw combat strength. Inspired by Canadian folklore and co-written by bestselling author Bryan Perro, you'll master an innovative Fear Factor system, customize your character with RPG skills, and fight for your sister's survival across a richly detailed 19th century Canada filled with myth and legend.

Combining action and strategy in a unique way, Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves transports you into an epic folktale co-written with best-selling Canadian author Bryan Perro (Amos Daragon, Wariwulf), in which two feuding brothers will have to put aside their differences to save their sister, who is pursued by the Devil himself!

This time however, sheer brute strength won't be enough to save the day as your enemies are way stronger than you are. Only your wits and the ability to combine ingenious traps to setup deadly ambushes will give you a chance to see the sun rise again on your frozen piece of forest...

Key Features

  • Plan your strategy! – Take advantage of the calm during the day to fill your forest with all kinds of traps that are as inventive as they are deadly.
  • Hunt your enemies! – When night falls, use the wind and lure the diabolic beasts into your traps using bait... But watch out! You have to be on constant guard to make sure you don't become the prey of the beasts you are tracking!
  • Fight heroically! – If some of the beasts get past your traps, that's when it gets bloody! First you can shoot them with your trusty musket and then eliminate the ones that survive by slaughtering them with your axe! Action and carnage guaranteed!
  • Use fear to your advantage! – All the mechanics of the game revolve around the innovative concept of Fear Factor, which makes your ability to intimidate your enemy your best weapon. For example, use fire to frighten the wolves and scatter their packs.
  • Customize your character! – Choose one of the two O'Carroll brothers and develop your character using a skill system based on role-playing games (RPGs), making your hero as unique as he is powerful!
  • Discover a rich universe! – Immerse yourself in 19th century Canada where legends meet History in a world filled with lore and wonders. Buy historical weapons and items, fight mythical beasts and uncover the truth about werewolves...

Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves is a distinctive hybrid of action, strategy, tower defense, and light role-playing that builds its identity around preparation rather than brute strength. Set against a supernatural vision of 19th-century Canada, it follows two estranged O’Carroll brothers who must put their disagreements aside when their sister becomes the target of the Devil. The premise has the flavor of an old fireside folktale, and the involvement of Canadian author Bryan Perro helps give the supernatural conflict a stronger narrative identity than might be expected from a strategy-focused game. Artifice Studio serves as both developer and publisher, delivering a project whose modest production values are compensated for by unusually creative mechanics. The basic gameplay revolves around a compelling day-and-night structure. During daylight, the player examines the surrounding forest and prepares for whatever creatures will arrive after dark. Traps can be positioned along likely enemy routes, creating elaborate ambushes intended to weaken or eliminate monsters before direct confrontation becomes necessary. Planning matters because the protagonist is deliberately portrayed as vu…

Sang Froid Tales of Werewolves is a game I did not really know what to expect from at first, because it mixes together a few things that normally would not be put in the same game. I am playing as one of two brothers in 19th century Canada, trying to protect my sister from werewolves and other creatures while also dealing with the Devil. During the day I get time to prepare the forest, place traps and decide how I want the coming night to play out. When night arrives, the game turns into a much more active fight where I have to hunt the creatures and deal with anything that gets through my setup. That combination is what makes it stand out to me. The trap system is easily my favourite part. I am not simply waiting for enemies to appear and then attacking them. I can place different traps around the forest, use bait to lure enemies towards them and take advantage of the way they move through the area. I also have to think about fear, which can be used to scare enemies and change how they behave. I really like having this planning stage because it makes me feel like I am preparing an actual hunt rather than just walking into another fight. When a setup works exactly how I planned, i…

Great game, very well made. Would like to have to more game modes. Having to run back and forth (or zipline) just to deal with a couple of mobs or will-o-wisps made it feel more like a micro-management tower defense game which took away from raw action and trap defense based survival atmosphere it creates but it's more like a bad shoe than than rock in your boot in that it's there but easily forgettable. :P
