About Sanctum 2

✦ AI summary

Sanctum 2 blends tower defense strategy with first-person shooter action as you build mazes of towers and walls to protect alien-threatened Cores, then jump into combat to blast enemies yourself. Choose from four character classes with deep customization options and face increasingly brutal waves solo or with up to four friends in co-op.

Sanctum 2 is the sequel to the world’s first Tower Defense/FPS hybrid game. Pick from four unique character classes and embark on a mission to protect the oxygen-producing Cores from hordes of deadly aliens who are threatened by their existence. Outfit your character exactly the way you want through the new and extensive customization system. Choose your own loadout of towers, weapons and perks, but choose wisely because you are humanity’s last defense against the unrelenting hordes set out to destroy it.

Sanctum 2 is a new game completely rebuilt from the ground up using community feedback and innovative design to really push the bar of what an independent studio can do.

Intense Action – Deep Strategy

In Sanctum 2, you will utilize elements from multiple gameplay genres to succeed. Construct towers and walls during the building phase before the enemies attack, then jump into the fray and blast everything to pieces in FPS mode. You can progress through the single-player campaign yourself, or play with up to four friends in co-op to discover the secrets of the planet LOEK III and learn the backstory on why the aliens are so intent on destroying the Cores you are sworn to protect.

Key Features

Building on the success of the original game, Sanctum 2 stands alone as the only true FPS/Tower Defense hybrid. No other title delivers gameplay that seamlessly combines both genres.

  • First-Person Shooter – Don’t just sit back and watch, jump into the action yourself!
  • Four playable character classes – Each with their own unique strengths, weaknesses and weapons.
  • Vast Customization System – Pick perks or make the game crazy hard by adding Feats of Strength.
  • In-game Visual Novel – Unlock a comic-book page for every map you beat to discover the secrets of LOEK III.
  • Progression System – Increase your rank and unlock new weapons, towers and perks.
  • 4-Player Co-op – Progress through the storyline yourself or team up with other players whenever you want.

✦ AI summary

Players praise this tower defense-FPS hybrid for its unique and fun gameplay, creative map design with hidden secrets, and strong multiplayer appeal. Common complaints center on inconsistent difficulty balancing that swings from too easy to punishingly hard without a clear progression curve, occasional bugs requiring level restarts, and a sense that the FPS mechanics overshadow the tower defense elements. Despite being somewhat dated, the game runs well on modern PCs and offers compelling challenge for players who activate higher difficulty modifiers.

An immensely fun game, if a bit dated in areas. It generally runs fine, but I've encountered some bugs here for there that required a level restart. The balance is a bit wonky too, as it can go from super easy to incredibly punishing without a clear line of progress, but the gameplay is fun and rather unique.

I bought this game back in high school when it was discounted on Steam and I was allowed to try it for free for a while. I was immediately hooked and bought it. I was impressed by the theme and the tower defense concept combined with FPS, especially with the map that allows exploration and discovering small secret details created by the developer. Now that I have a decent PC, I'm still playing it and it still works great on modern PCs. The campaign may be too easy for some, and I agree, but when I played it, the game really only started when you played Solo and activated all the feats of strength. I got really frustrated (not in a bad way) on some stages and really used my head to complete them. Eventually, I tried various perks and towers until I found the gameplay that suited me to complete the stage. Welp, I think this game is one of my all-time favorites.

It's so 1st Person shooter weighted that the tower defense and turrets seem to just be in the way.

Really incredible and unique take on a tower defense game. It's so fun to play with friends and I like the different kind of weapons you can have. I definitely had a frustrating time with the difficulties, for instance, easy was too easy, but a step higher would have been too much. Great to grab when it's on sale.
