Picontier / ピコンティア

I've played so many games like Picontier and finished or at least exhausted myself on them. I'm very easily drawn into cute pixel art and 2d action rpg controls and gathering mechanics. I love running around a colorful little world picking stuff up and handling simple management and repetitive tasks. I will run a game like this into the ground even if I think it's not very good as long as I can get into a comfortable rhythm. I have such low standards for a game like Picontier and yet it fails to reach them. This is a chore game, the point is to be doing lots of tedious menial tasks every single day to satisfy all the little progress bars. The problem is that every single thing the game directs the player to do is annoying and tedious and not very well incentivized by the game mechanics. This is how the game developed for me. The player is encouraged to be giving items to residents regularly so they can give you fetch quests that might result in craft recipes, sometimes these are really important tools that let you do more things, most of the time it's a food recipe that restores 20 hp and require an item you've only managed to find 2 of, or more likely it's just god darn 5 Wilt…

dev is absolute scumbag, who doesnt even reply to his own games issues, like a gamebreaking issue, that on gamepad you cant press 1 certain button, that you can on keyboard. therefore its unplayable on gamepad. and only with a keyboard (without mouse). very very outdated because of that. wasted almost 15€.

I don't like that I can't change the controls but other than that I love this game. ; v ; The art style is adorable, the characters are strange, the music is chill, and it's just a very slow, relaxing life/farm sim.

The pixel art is so gorgeous, the soundtrack also. Everything adds to the game very beautiful retro nuances. Surely a lot of care has been dedicated to this game that took unfortunately very long time to get completed from its beta release. I'm very surprised that the reviews are still few, this game deserves much more recognition! It's a real hidden gem.

A simpler farm/craft title that expands nicely over the course of the game and maintains a very pleasant atmosphere throughout. I enjoyed it so much I even trudged my way through the "max friendship with everyone" achievement which I rarely bother with. It is perhaps a slight bit slow at the starting stage.
