About Derange

Welcome back to the world of Survival Horror...

May 2nd, 2002. A mysterious email from a long-lost mentor sends you traveling to an isolated Gothic estate in the primeval wilderness of rural Massachusetts. When you arrive, you find yourself dragged into a nightmare beyond comprehension, hunted by eldritch foes and forced to fight for survival in the aftermath of a terrible fate.

Derange is a retro-styled spiritual successor to the survival horror classics of the '90s. Immerse yourself in gameplay from a forgotten era of horror as you struggle to unravel a terrifying mystery and put an end to an evil that threatens existence itself.

Features

 • Traditional old-school survival horror, complete with fiendish puzzles, deadly enemies, inventory management and limited saves.
 • Play as college student Jessica King or tech whiz Nathan Romero, each with their own unique playstyle and personality.
 • Dynamic “Hive Mind System” which reacts to your playstyle: enemies get stronger, smarter or faster depending on how you play.
 • Multiple difficulty levels, for casual horror buffs and survival horror purists alike.
 • A haunting mystery to solve, inspired by the works of H.P Lovecraft and classic horror movies like The Thing.

What Steam players say

✦ AI summary

Players praise the game's atmospheric design, music, and graphics that evoke classic 90s horror, but criticize significant control issues across multiple platforms, tedious combat mechanics, and difficulty balancing that becomes frustrating later in the game. The RPG Maker engine choice and predictable story are also points of contention for some, though a few appreciate it as a solid survival horror experience despite its flaws.
Yeeaaah
Can't remember why I bought this, but I'm better off just watching someone else play this. I started replaying this from the start, It was just as boring as it was the first time I played it, got inside the building where the duo came up with the oh so brilliant idea to split up. Tried to fight a zombie to get a handle at the combat, died, respawned, tried making a map of my surrounding, got bored, moved on to something else. If you were going to make a demake of Resident Evil 2, I think you could've done better with another engine that isn't RPG maker.

I must say i really like the game and all, BUT after a certain time there is no way to get around the enemies which makes it really annoying. I havent played it to the end because its soo annoying. I you like a challenge its ok to buy but if you want to play a normal game youd be better of without it

Derange, developed by Dark Gaia Studios and published by GrabTheGames, is a survival horror title that pays homage to the classic horror games of the 1990s while infusing its own modern twists. Set in an eerie and isolated Gothic estate in rural Massachusetts, the game follows two college students, Jessica King and Nathan Romero, as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of their mentor, Dr. Edwin Prestor. From the outset, Derange establishes a thick atmosphere of suspense and dread, drawing players into a dark narrative filled with cosmic horror elements reminiscent of H.P. Lovecraft’s work and the unsettling vibes of classic horror cinema. The gameplay in Derange is built on traditional survival horror foundations, emphasizing exploration, puzzle-solving, and careful resource management. Players must navigate the shadowy halls and sprawling grounds of the estate, collecting items, piecing together cryptic clues, and solving environmental puzzles to progress. What sets Derange apart is its “Hive Mind System,” an intriguing mechanic that causes enemies to adapt to the player’s behavior. If a player relies too heavily on one combat tactic or weapon, enemies will evolve to co…

Your game controls do not work with an English (qwerty) keyboard. down is left right is up. there is no button for right or down

Meh.. half half. Looks like a copy of Resident Evil. The controls on the steam deck where kind of a sh*t and I needed to bind the keys bc I couldn't attack. The last chapter was kind of a mess due to the amount of enemies and the story was too predictable. Meh... not sure. Puzzles weren't that hard but the biggest problem has been the controls, moments in which the game told me that I could not use an object there when I was using the correct key and the combat that in my opinion was a little poor. Meh.. half half.

Zombies randomly respawned in rooms I had cleared, but bullets and other loot don't appear to do the same. The combat system is terrible, so to have sacrificed supplies and then have safe hallways suddenly become dangerous again was just frustrating.
