About We Met in May

✦ AI summary

We Met in May is a collection of short vignette games where you play as Nina navigating various comedic dates and shenanigans with her love interest Jake, from beach outings to home-cooked dinners. Each bite-sized game captures a unique, character-driven moment from the couple's relationship with humor and heart, designed to be played solo or shared with friends for a memorable hour or less of romantic comedy fun.

We met in May and went on a lot of dates. This is a collection of vignette games about those dates, and the comedy that comes with getting to know someone.

What the heck do you DO in these games?
In We Met in May, you play as Nina while she's hanging out with her love interest, Jake. Nina and Jake get into various shenanigans together, which you play through as Nina. On one date, you may end up burying Jake in sand, chips and wine. On another, he may cook dinner for you! Each game is unique, and explores a different date between the two characters.

What do we mean by "vignette games"?
In our case, the vignette games contained in this collection are very short, focused games. Each one illustrates a different moment in the characters relationship (drawing on the developers own experiences!). The vignette games in We met in May are meant to be brief and memorable.

These aren't massive 400 hour RPGs, so don't expect bazillions of hours of gameplay. In fact, only expect... an hour or less! Unless you want to share these at a party--then you can get lots of hours out of the collection by watching your friends try to pour sand directly into Jake's mouth in one of the vignettes called Beach Date. ;)

Who are these games for?
Everyone! But specifically, people who enjoy romantic comedy, small games, character-driven stories and just... funny stuff in general will probably enjoy this collection.

✦ AI summary

We Met in May is a charming, short visual experience about the early stages of romance, praised for its dreamy aesthetic, sweet humor, and relatable awkwardness that captures the feeling of new love. Players appreciate its affordable price point and unique mood-driven approach, though some note the brevity (around 15 minutes) means it's best suited for those interested in games as artistic vignettes rather than content-heavy experiences. The game resonates most with fans of developer Nina Freeman's previous work or those seeking indie games focused on emotional storytelling over gameplay.

We Met in May is a short series of vignettes that look into the lives of developers Nina Freeman and Jake Jeffries! We follow them on a cute, awkward and charming set of dates and basque in the glow of relationships forming, whilst being serenaded by Ryan Yoshikami's sweet, smooth soundtrack (which is totally worth an OST purchase btw!). I had a great time laughing along at the sweet moments the starring couple went through. Related to the sweet, cringey, awkwardness of a couple getting closer to each other, and had some good laughs at some anime-esque over the top scenes (the diamond dust ice queen attack had me in stitches)! This game is for anybody who is down for a unique and small experience that has any interest in the way I just described it! Plus its only a couple of quid, so treat yo'self!

We Met in May is a short game about the nervousness and intoxication of new love. The game is made up of up of 4 bite size segments that range from a beach date to inviting your flame over to your apartment for first time. The weird art style has this dreamy mix of pinks, oranges and whites and it captures the vibe of infatuation perfectly. There isn’t a ton to do here, but if you appreciate games as moods I think you’ll feel something with We Met in May.

I finished the thing in like 15mins, but having played some of Nina's other games I already had an idea of what to expect. While I can't honestly say I would have bought it at full price, it's a cute little game and is worth a look if you're fond of the Dev's other stuff; or if you simply agree that there should be more like this about the place from various devs. :-) It was sweet, it was fun, I poured wine (or maybe ketchup) all over a dude at the beach until we were both ready for romantic eye-contact. So as far as I'm concerned, We Met In May was worth what I spent on it. ^_^
