Putting a review up for this lost build engine cousin, as it draws more than a little from Blood. This game has a fun arsenal and some enemies who probably skipped the class on cliffs.

really good and underrated boomer shooter that deserves more love

This game is amazing. An obvious Heretic inspiration, but I like that. I also love the weapons and how unique they are. It isn't your typical staffs or magical abilities where the "weapon" sprite is just hands with some magic. $20 is a bit steep for this kind of game. But I got it on sale for $14 and it's definitely worth at least $15. I'm a sucker for GZ Doom games and this one is great. Buy it!

great fun

This is a really, really fun retro FPS running on ZDoom that feels like a blend of Blood and Heretic, and it's a real shame it's flown under the radar for the last couple years. Pros: - Fantastic level design, in the vein of Blood; semi-realistic layouts that evoke real locations without needing to be too bogged down in detail (though with a lot more secret doors). Also, much like Blood, you spend a lot of time blowing holes in the level to return to earlier areas, leaving the place wrecked and covered in corpses when you leave. - Fantastic soundtrack - there's a ton of unique music pieces in the game, with recurring lietmotifs to score the individual episodes. It's got a great style and matches the game really well. The soundtrack, if bought seperately, is ~3 hours, to give you some idea of how hefty it is. - Four episodes, eight levels apiece (except the final one which is one level shorter), plus a fairly well-hidden secret level on each episode. The secret levels don't seem to be particularly gimmicky, they're just an additional well-crafted level that let you get a bit of extra gear early, usually. - The hand-drawn cutscenes are really charming and I really enjoy the de…

I don't even know where to begin with this game. I've put quite a few hours into it and overall I like it but there are some areas where it felt a bit lackluster. The Good: - THE SOUNDTRACK. The music is so good! Ambient yet catchy! - The weapons are a ton of fun. Each has an alternate fire. The cannon, for example, does cluster bombs after firing an explosion and its fun to watch enemies get anniliated. - The maps*. Some of the secrets are really creative and the map areas look really cool for a Doom-engine shooter. - Neat cutscenes that aren't usually seen in boomer shooters. Bad: - The maps. While the maps aren't bad on their own, they always have an easy passageway back to the beginning or other parts of the level. In theory this should make traversing the map super quick. In reality, this makes the maps extremely confusing and can cause the player to end up walking in loops and getting confused as to whether this area is one they've revisited yet or not. - The game crashed after beating E2M8. This might be because I'm on Linux but I hadn't had any issues on any other parts of the game, cutscene or otherwise but some reason after defeating the Raven Queen or w…
