✦ AI summary

Wizordum captures the retro shooter experience with solid weapon design, engaging level exploration, and plenty of secrets to discover, appealing strongly to players who enjoy classic FPS games like Wolfenstein 3D and Hexen. However, the game suffers from significant technical issues including unfair enemy behavior (projectiles pass through obstacles while the player's don't), poor audio design, inconsistent hitboxes, and a lack of audio cues for enemy spawns, which frustrate many players and occasionally break progression.

I thought id like this one but Im pretty dissapointed in it. I find the game quite the slog to get through with the levels I played to be far too long winded and repetitive to hold my attention throughout them, this is the only boomer shooter ive played where i just... take a break mid level. I think its really an example of how less can actually be more in that, in such big sprawling levels you're stretching a simple gameplay loop out way too much that the enemies, spells, and weapons, cannot possibly hold up in their quick snappy simplicty. Enemy variety from what I played was a huge problem where it felt that these simple enemies where used in way too many different basic configurations and new elements were not introduced quickly enough which left it feeling stale. Like, I played for 6 hours and most other shooters like this I'd be towards the end of already. And it has more going on but not enough of substance to actually hold that playtime. The enemy encounters were lacking to me as well where there was a lot of times of enemies just being around corners and very silent in a way that felt annoying and unfair, there was a lot of repetitive corner checking as a result. That w…

All ground units can and will clip 1/3 to 2/3 into the wall making them annoying to notice/kill. Flying ghosts will clip into the ceiling making them impossible to kill and blocking progression. Helicopters will drop items which will be stuck in... thin air? Winters end tomb secret will push you oob resulting in reset. And where is bloodmage first playthrough achievement? Meh, what a sloppy programming. Edit: LOOOL elderstone mines gem breaks game scripts and save!!!

This is great fun to just sit and blast through. Great look to it. Nothing to complain about. If you like the look of it, you'll like it.

After playing this game for 17 minutes I became horribly sick and had to go lay down. I'm sure it's a great game with a lot of fun mechanics or whatever, but you can't experience any of it because of its cursed aspect ratio or refresh rate or SOMETHING. Visually it's a sumptuous feast of amazing sprite work and retro pixel art; mechanically it harkens back to a better time in gaming when simple didn't mean less than, with a feel reminiscent of Wolfenstein3D and DOOM; and I'm sure all of that would be infinitely more enjoyable if it wasn't also making me deathly ill. Don't play this game if you don't like flying around at 1,000 miles per second, default mouse look 100s of times too high, pinged out of your mind.

Honestly, this game should be the starter for a meh opinion being added to steam reviews. it is not bad, but not good. it is not fast, but not slow. it is not tactical, but neither "fast". it is not hard, but not easy. it is not interesting, but neither a slog. there is a shop, but honestly, alt fires being locked behind a "X money" its extremely lame, even leveling the gun would have been less of a "ick" this game sits between wolfensteins levels of hallways and dumb ahh npcs, and vanilla og doom 1 episode one levels of complexity. I'm almost done with it, and yeah, it gave me a lot of time, but honestly, the last third episode has a "difficulty" spike and a lot of padding. took me a bit to beat it because i never had that "i wanna play it more" feeling and I'm doing it now because i wanna clear some of my backlog.
