About Hedon Bloodrite

Hedon Bloodrite merges Hedon I and II into an entirely hand crafted 20+ hours singleplayer experience inspired by not only the best retro FPS games of the 90s, but also classic RPGs, Immersive Sims and Adventure Games. Hedon mixes high octane action with the exploration of a world rich in atmosphere, lore and secrets.
➣ An exotic world of lore and secrets
Embark on an adventure across an underground world where ancient and medieval civilizations meet with uncanny crystal-powered technologies.
➣ A dark, warm, eerie atmosphere
Immerse yourself in the whistling of cave drafts and the humming of the mossy crystals as you ponder your next move.
➣ Brutal, gory, fast-paced combat
Shatter your foes with a lined-up axe throw, lob acid at them from your Potion Launcher or ignite them with the flamethrower included into your goblin-made Fragfire Gun.
➣ Complex, non-linear, handmade levels
Sharpen your wits and your sense of exploration - there won't be many arrows to point you through the mysteries of the Underworld, so putting clues together and using your resources wisely are the key to success.
➣ A touch of RPG (Bloodrite-only)
Travel between RPG-style level clusters, interact with a variety of characters, complete secondary and hidden quests, and watch some of your deeds and approaches have an impact on the surrounding world.
➣ Good company (Bloodrite-mostly)
Lead the orc daughters of the Iron Division to victory. They will prove their worth when fighting alongside you against the armies of chaos.
➣ Six difficulty levels
Changing not only the damage taken or how many progression clues you get but also the individual monster and item placement of each map.
And don't forget the Bearzerk difficulty that completely shifts the gameplay by swapping your regular arsenal with unique melee weapons.

➣ A multi-genre soundtrack
Going from tense to serene ambient, with occasional kicks of heavy metal. All spiced up with a few Alexander Brandon tracks that never made it in the final releases of Unreal and Deus Ex!
➣ Fully moddable
You can mod and make maps for Hedon just as easily as you can for Doom.

➣ DRM free
You buy it, you own it.

Growing up with a cheapo laptop, I latched pretty quick onto DOOM mods. I remember spending hours browsing Doomworld or the ZDoom forums, marvelling at the stuff people were putting out. Entirely for free, mind you. And even with all that this game flew under my radar! After I finally caved and bought it in a sale, I have to admit I felt dumb for having put it off for so long. It's *so good*. While I know people can work indescribable wizardry with modern Doom sourceports, the care and love put into the aesthetics and level design is really put into perspective when you realize it was (more or less) made on a thirty-something year old framework! You play as a (very) buff, blue half-orc named Zan who, after having woken up in a damp cavern, must journey through various incredibly detailed and very intricate levels, ranging from lush forests and dwarven foundries to towering mountains, to stop whoever massacred her orcish brethren.. by massacring her way through hordes of cultists and demons. It's a very magitech/crystalpunky setting, with lots of glowing crystals and heavy machinery alongside medieval fantasy hearths and fur rugs. And built orcish ladies. With exposed midriffs. …

Level design in this takes me back to the days of Duke and Thief. It's also very much got its own Fantasy style that really works. Solid game, give it a go!

This is, for me, a really odd game. I was expecting arenas of monsters to shoot my way through while hunting for various coloured keys to progress forward to even more arenas full of monsters to shoot. And Hedon DOES have all of that. But it's also not just a boomer shooter style FPS where you just shoot everything, there's a lot more here and the game kept surprising me. Some levels are pretty linear but a lot of maps are pretty open with multiple objectives and side-missions in them. There are puzzles to solve. Platforms to platform over. Secrets to stumble upon. It's more like a RPG in many aspects than a straight up FPS. There is an almost excessive amount of detail in the environments, and the areas themselves range from mines and cultist camps to forests, icy peaks and oceans of magma. When I first entered a city level I assumed the buildings were just cosmetic and that I'd have a straight-forward linear path to walk forward in until I find the designated exit, then to my surprise almost every structure had a detailed interior you could access granted you knew how to parkour your way onto the roofs and then get inside. There's also some creative "nightmare" levels with surre…
