Spiritless Ltd.

Ghostly Overtime. Story: You play as Charles Stone, a worker at Spiritless Ltd which sell ghost traps. His boss Hank informs us that there's a very unhappy customer on the outskirts of the town that bought a broken ghost trap and it's your job to go over there and fix it all while uncovering a dark secret of the house. The story of Spiritless Ltd. is a very fun although a rather simplistic tale. The story is very much what I expect from a point and click game and it mostly emulates the style of old, classic adventure games pretty well, however it's not entirely perfect. The first big issue is that the comedy is all over the place. Some jokes are pretty chuckle worthy, some are mixed bag and some just completely fall flat. It doesn't help that a lot of the jokes just drag on and on, like characters babbling about a certain thing, but it just quickly gets tiresome and you wish they would speak about something else. One minor flaw is that the story is also pretty poorly placed. A good chunk of the game is just you trying to fix the ghost trap and then suddenly, in the last hour of the game it just completely 180's to something entirely else which is total tonal whiplash. I honestly have no idea why this doesn’t have more reviews. It’s a great game, cute, funny…the characters and setting are interesting, and the translation is pretty good as well. For the price and length of play as well as entertainment factor, it’s definitely worth checking out. The puzzles aren’t super easy, but doable if you put your mind to it. I’d have to think long and hard about what the cons were, because I really can’t complain. Maybe my only regret is not knowing German, so that once I completed the game I could listen to & understand the voice acting & outtakes. :)
