I really wanted to recommend this game. The character and world are lovely but there's just little else to this game. For a game called Hello Big Adventure I was expecting, well, some adventure. There's no story or background here, you're just placed in a world where everything wants to kill you and the music appears to be royalty free songs you probably recognise from youtube videos. Also, the keybinding.. J is sprint. J! It was so counter-intuitive that I kept pressing other keys because why would I press J for sprint? Triple jump was almost impossible to get consistently and I have no idea how you trigger the squeaky green eye. This part of the game definitely needs more work. I played the game on Normal difficulty and got through stage 1 in about 2 hours with many, many deaths. At this point I probably won't continue on, there's just nothing there to make me want to keep going. If you like difficult platformers or are interested in speed running a game, this might be for you! Unfortunately, it wasn't for me.
Featured in my Lost on Steam Feature!
Rather just check the video instead of read? Me too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bUdh2-PBNk I started a new short segment called "Lost on Steam" which features games that have few reviews for one reason or another. Definitely not necessarily negative, just games that slipped by people. This is one of the featured games this week! Qipa is challenging Super Meat Boy type of platformer. While it takes the idea of those games to heart, the execution is less than stellar in a lot of ways. The biggest hangup on this game is that the background and all enemies, as far as I have seen, are all completely black. This makes it REALLY challenging to actually see what you're dealing with. I want to like this game more because it would be a super challenging but fun platformer, but with the current issues plaguing it (along with a horrible control scheme.. WHY IS J SPRINT?) I cannot recommend it right now. It's a cheap purchase and if it went on sale for 1 or 2 bucks I could see people throwing it some money, but until then I'd pass. tl;dr - Challenging platformer, more due to the design and controls than challenge. An unboxing for…

https://youtu.be/C8SPw8iiuV4 Built as a 'hard core' platformer the imprecision on the controls and the requirement to wait for narrow openings grates against the expected flow.
