Hey. We know you can get an SNES game out of the closet whenever you'd like... and we aim to provide exactly the same fun you'd have doing that. We set out to make a game that our 12 year old selves would love. Why walk ALL THE WAY OVER THERE to play a fun platformer when you're already at your computer anyway?

Since this game is still a work in progress, this won't be as much a complete review as just my thoughts on what there is at this point and some feedback on what could be improved or added to the game. STORY: While the game is a tie-in to the Dog and Spider book series, it doesn't really require you to be familiar with the books to understand the game's plot. Dahlia is sucked into some kind of spooky portal, with Jessica's husband Nick going after her. Jessica, of course, won't accept losing both of them and decides to go through the portal to find them. I have been informed by the developer that the opening cinematic will be fully voiced later on. It will definitely help with getting the story and characters across better for those unfamiliar with the books. What I like about the story is how dead simple it is. For a retro platformer it's pretty much all you need anyway as the games that inspired JUHA never really focused all that much on the story. It's an excuse for Jessica to be thrust into the video game world. GAME PLAY: The controls are very easy to grasp, especially if you are playing with a game pad. For keyboard controls, the game uses the WASD keys and…

I can tell a lot of time and dedication was put into this game! With technology continuously advancing all the big companies are trying to pump out the most realistic game possible. It's nice to go back to the old school days and live out the nostalgic dreams our childhood selves had. This did just that. Give it a try for yourself!

I really enjoyed what’s currently available of Jessica’s Uncomfortable Hanukkah Adventure as of December 2025. While this game has been sitting in early access without updates for a while, I’m still holding out hope that the developer is out there somewhere, carving out time to finish it—because there’s a good game here! So far, the Hanukkah theme hasn’t fully come into play yet, but hopefully that becomes more prominent in the finished version. What is here plays like a classic Castlevania-style action platformer. Jessica uses a baton for short-range combat, alongside a limited number of gun shots that slowly regenerate over time or can be refilled by items dropped from enemies. At the time of this review, the game contains one complete level and part of a second. Progress currently comes to a halt in what appears to be an impassable room, suggesting the content simply isn’t finished yet rather than the player missing something. Still, what’s present is fun and leaves me wanting more — especially if the full Hanukkah angle gets fleshed out down the line. Dev, if you're out there, I hope you're doing well and know that I've enjoyed what you made here!
