Usurper: Soulbound

The bones of a good game are here. The responsive to the controller is good, and the usurp mechanic is motivating. Gameplay is not quite there yet in the sense that in order to progress, you'll need to master the parry-timing mechanic (since the combat variety is lacking, there are few other ways to get an edge on a fight). There is some effort towards making spells to add variety, but the spells are difficult to use in combat because of the cast time and the enemies are relentless in their movement towards the player at a fixed pace. I feel like this game could be polished into a gem with a few months of work, so I hope that development continues.

From the looks of it, this game's development seems to have ceased. It's a shame, really, because I had fun with it back when I got it. I have no idea what happened with the devs, but they may have just ran off with the money, considering there have been no updates for nearly two years. TL;DR Don't buy it.

Some one more forgiving and less particular than my self could really enjoy this game and it's cheap so maybe give it a shot regardless of my scathing review. What ever excuses of its only made by X number of people with a tiny budget as one of their first games some one may make do not particularly matter to me, only the end product does. In this case it falls short. The animations are very slow and clunky providing the hand eye coordination of immersion breaking. Hit boxes are so all over the place that I cant tell if the dodge has I-frames or not because some times what I see tells me they must exist and other times that they cant possibly. The price point is good but for my self if this was free I still wouldn't play it.

In general the game is good characters has actual voicelines, combat is cool and it has meta-progression which is nice but the worst part of ittt issss the 3rd. and probably maybe idk the last boss.... will corrupt your gamefile and wont let you play anymore after beating

Usurper: Soulbound is a wonderful take on rougelike dungeon crawlers. It's not without its issues but I see amazing potential in it. I found it highly addictive and the usurp mechanic to be pretty refreshing and original. Combines elements of some of my favorite Action RPG's. Definitely something im happy to keep in my list and watch as it grows. Keep up the good work!

Usurper: Soulbound is a wonderful addition to the hack-and-slash genre. Every Diablo fan should try this one out. I’ve always wanted to see what it’s like to control a villain when slashing enemies during my Diablo sessions. The necromancer class from Diablo II gives you a little bit of that — you can animate a killed fiend and make it fight by your side; nevertheless, in Diablo, conquered enemies are acting as NPCs. In Usurper: Soulbound you can literally take control of your enemies in real time during battles, etc. It’s like mixing Diablo with the good old Messiah PC games. The concept is mind-blowing. Overall, the climate brings back the memories of playing Grim Fandango on my good old PC — Usurper: Soulbound also revolves around dead characters in a similar way; older gamers should know what I’m saying. Usurper: Soulbound also has a great fighting model. In the Diablo series, you focus more on collecting items, which enhance your fighting skills, but here you have to develop a certain fighting style to get through. Moreover, the graphics are decent; fans of isometric perspective should be satisfied.
