King's Orders

A really good concept and gameplay loop. I enjoyed the game, but I can't recommend based on the use of genAI tools in developing art assets. Were those assets to be replaced by ones by an actual artist I would revise my review.

So I got it on sale for 6$, i think thats about right for the price of the game. At that price it gets a thumbs up, barley. For a long time I've wanted a medieval strategy game that has delayed orders, so you dont have perfect control. More like it was in real life. This game takes a step in that direction. Unfortunately, I think its held back by 3 things. Firstly, the UI sucks. Actions that should take 3-5 clicks take 9+ clicks. Things are oddly buried in menus within menus at times as well. 2ndly, using messages in such a strategic view....doesn't really change much. The interesting way to use the delayed messages and imperfect information mechanics I think would be a more tactical view. As a general instead of a king, but more turn based instead of the RTS style of Strategos. 3rdly, the AI sucks. It has no idea how to build a city or be aggressive. Overall, I think he could take this concept, build and refine, and make an interesting game. As it is, its extremely niche and needs polish.

Game has potentials, but sadly it's a bit shallow. I bought it for $7 AUD (about 4 USD) on sale so I guess it's worth it. I'd rate it about 6.5/10

Great deep mechanic of delayed information, surprisingly satisfying and give me "another turn" obsession

Very interesting way to play a game of this sort but it makes sense. Well think about it, no telephones, no internet, and no marconi so this is about how it would be back in those days. I did enjoy playing it for a bit but the map, and pawns (moving pieces) are ugly. The colors are shiny, and so very bad is what made me get a refund. The core game mechanics are solid, and if you enjoy walls of text then this game would be something you could enjoy. I didn't mind reading through the messages, in fact it drew me in even further. I own a couple of Crusader Kings games, and the dev had the good mind to work the colors on the map, pawns etc, and when I played this game I was offended by the color scheme, and it's very very bad. I mean it's very bad. Do I suggest the game? Yeah I do but the game is very ugly (map, and pawns). Note: Dev, I really liked the game but the colors are bad. Not the text or messages etc, just the main map, and pawns are horrible looking (colors). PLEASE change these for goodness sakes alive. I wish I was able to keep the game but my eyes got very tired because of the colors.
