Cool art style, neat cutscenes. Can't say a whole lot of good about the gamplay. Combat is ok, but the exploration is terrible. Half the time you can't tell where you need to go. It's way too easy to accidentally progress the main line without fully exploring the area. Camera is obnoxious and doesn't let you see where you need to go. It just wasn't any fun at any stage.

Top-down 2D Ninja Gaiden with Onimusha's Issen counter In other words, a fast-paced technical action game with emphasis on aggressive crowd-control, with a risky but satisfying counter mechanic on top. There's a lot of contextual interactions that adds another layer of complexity to combat encounters as well. Maras, a prince of a fallen kingdom you control, comes with a lot of mechanics. He has a standard string, a charged attack, a number of command attacks (like dash attack etc.), a number of special attacks ("abilities"), and a number of super attacks. That's just for offense, he also has a guard, a "just" guard which links to a counter, the Issen counter (attacking at the exact moment an enemy attack hits) which could be followed up, dashes for repositioning, and a way to get out of hitstun. These actions are governed by three different resources: "Stamina (yellow bar)," "Soul Orbs (blue resource for Abilities)," and "Ghost Orbs (purple resource for get-out-of-hitstun)." The problem, as many reviews also note, is that the game tries to teach all of these in the first 10 minutes. But alas, Infodump just doesn't work. It's an alright game, but when I got one of the soul from Act 3, the game got unplayable. I understand it tells you it's a cursed soul, but I expected something like take x% more damage or something that can be played around... But the debuff makes you freeze for 1 sec on every skill use. And since it's a fast pace game were skills are the bread and butter, the this is just a ridiculously bad game decision. I even tried editing my save to remove it before I gave up. Almost purged the game but I restarted a new game to finish it. I enjoyed the game, but that little part makes me done with it.

Quick Summary: A beautiful pixel Quasi-cinematic game that is more action than souls-like with some flawed execution in both gameplay and storyline that really bring the game down that isn't worth the $20 price tag currently. -See Below for Deeper Review- Gameplay: The game uses souls (multi-coloured orbs ala onimusha) as currency to buy new skills/abilites to upgrade them. That's where the souls part for some would be. They are abundant and by act 5 you'll have enough to level up you're favorite skills. What the problem here is, the game uses a chaining system on attacks and dodges, but sometimes it dosen't register, other times it so clunky you break the chain knowing full well you did complete it. (Get good son?), but there's a option to turn on Auto-chaining and man that changed the game up to the point it also wasn't great. Yea, after turning on Auto-chaining i was bouncing around the stage killing things in cinematic glory, blocking and dodging it was amazing to see it blended with the pixel graphics, but i found my game became then too easy.
