About Salt and Sanctuary

✦ AI summary

Explore a cursed, fog-shrouded island as a shipwrecked sailor, engaging in brutal 2D combat while discovering and crafting over 600 weapons and items to overcome shambling horrors and forgotten lords. This is a stylish action-RPG that seamlessly blends fast, complex combat with deep progression systems across haunting dungeons and blood-soaked environments.

A doomed sailor is shipwrecked on an uncharted island. In fog-shrouded valleys, where grinning, mossy corpses cling to rusted arms, shambling figures begin to stir. Beneath crumbling, salt-worn structures, labyrinthine passageways lead to unspeakable evil, long forgotten by man.

Salt and Sanctuary seamlessly combines fast, brutal, and complex 2D combat with richly developed RPG mechanics. Discover, craft, and upgrade over 600 weapons, armor pieces, spells, and items as you explore a cursed realm of forgotten cities, blood-soaked dungeons, desecrated monuments, and the fallen lords they once celebrated.

From Ska Studios, the award-winning indie studio behind a long list of stylistic, visceral, and brutally executed action titles that includes The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, and Charlie Murder, comes Salt and Sanctuary, the studio’s most ambitious title to date.

In a few words, Salt and Sanctuary is... magical... unlike anything I've ever played before. I mean, sure it has very Dark Souls coded DNA, but SKA really cooked with this one. After playing a great number of soulsy type games, both 3D and 2D, I can easily say this game stands on its own... firmly. This game takes what you thought a souls like could be and elevates it to new levels. Take for instance character creation, one of the most important decisions of the game is which deity you align yourself with, as some have unique goals and specialties in the endgame. There are various builds which are all part of a massive free-form skill tree. You can do anything you want handguns, whips, scythes, chakrams, polearms, magic... its all here! Each 'sanctuary' (bonfires if youre looking for a comparison) is actually a living space, with some already claimed by other npcs from other religions. Add to that Metroid style traversal and navigation and you will understand what makes this game absolutely fantastic! Please play this game, please support SKA Studios as they are amazing developers.

I hate every single souls-like game.

Great game but the platforming can be a bit tilting

Fun, but very challenging (to me, at least), souls-like metroidvania. I really like the art style and combat in this title, but I'm finding the music pretty repetitive. I may update this once I finish the platinum.

huge dark souls 1 fan, this game is the first i have seen/played that has some inspirations from ds1 and captures the vibes of it perfectly because they went and did their own unique thing. it feels distinct and raw in a very unique way that ive fallen in love with. 100% worth a shot if you liked the dark souls games and want to play something that took inspiration from them to do their own thing and make their own wholly unique game, 10/10 game, super unique cant recommend enough
