Mirror of Heaven

Super fun gameplay loop with a wuxia setting. Great fun! An eye-watering number of skills, weapons, treasures and builds to roll. Pretty generic world, but the boss fights are fun. Try equipping all passive skills, rolling with just your normal attack and cheesing the bosses - heart-pumping, twitchy gameplay. Pretty basic story, but it doesn't need to be much more than what it is. English translation is 90% there - seems like a few of the treasures in particular were just forgotten about, but you'll figure out what they do when you acquire them anyways. Worth the price of admission for sure!

It's a good game done pretty well. It seems to be mostly translated now and the information is interesting. You can only wield one weapon at a time, so choose wisely. You can try the newest weapon out before collecting the weapons for your collection. When you beat the first stage, you can choose some of the lower ranked weapons to start. Each weapon is pretty different, depending on your preferred play, can make a huge difference. Choose the skills/objects in between each stage after leaving the map carefully as it will effect your gameplay considerably as well. If you die, be sure to spend your experience stones to unlock your skill tree (each one usually has 5 levels). A decent cultivator game with fighting action.

Mirror of Heaven has quite a lot of neat little systems and pretty fight visuals, but is crippled by critical failings. The most obvious is the lack of translation for non-Chinese players, but the deeper issue is that the enemy side of the game--ie, what you go and fight with, core to engaging play--just is not there at all. There are very few enemies, they do almost nothing, and you fairly quickly get to a state where only the comically out of scale bosses are even relevant, which makes large swathes of your time with the game a drag, punctuated by the occasional completely overtuned edge-of-death slog of a boss fight, which will cost you the entire boring zone's metaprogression if you don't get past it. You can look carefully at the store page trailers and note how little you see of non-boss enemies doing anything but getting hit to show off the flashy player attacks. That's because there just isn't anything to show for most of the game besides the player's flashy attacks hitting a few hollow drones of enemies. It's honestly a darn shame.
