About Tales of the Mirror

Tales of the Mirror is a landscape-mode visual novel game created by Cotton Games. As a player, you solve a series of mysteries in the mid and late Ming Dynasty, in the south of Yangtze River. One day, while enjoying the view of a lake, you meet Ren Sanniang (a female NPC). After she tearfully tells you her bitter story, you decide to help her redress the injustices her family had suffered.

You need to crack the case within a specified number of days, and you need to use an ancient mirror to reveal the lies and secrets hidden behind the words in your quest for the truth. Behind the twists and turns of the bizarre story lies the human condition and life-and-death decisions. Let us travel back in time to the Ming dynasty and relive this legendary story that happened in the misty Yangtze Delta.

Game Features:

1. The exquisite ancient Chinese backdrops let you immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery of Yangtze Delta.
2. You will be profoundly intrigued by the unexpected development of the plot and cannot help but delve further into the mystery.
3. Truth is not always apparent. The ancient mirror in your possession allows you to uncover deeply hidden secrets.
4. Clues lie between the lines. In the course of tracking down the culprit, you need to find important clues from the dialog, record them, and solve layers upon layers of puzzles to get to the bottom of everything.
5. As a player, every choice you make will affect the direction of the plot and lead to different endings.

The art is pretty good but the story is not attractive anymore. The logistic of each evidence is not strong enough and there has time limit for player, so there is no time to enjoy.

Beautiful visual, music and SFX, interesting story, but the game play is very frustrating. Wish it could be improved.

Inshort, Sherlock Holmes in Ming Dynasty era. Intro is so unique and cool. I love such indie games. The music and art style are good, despite of its looks, this game is immersive, you kinda get inside of Ming Dynasty era and live there for a moment you play this game, I even decided to buy a book about that era, so I can write my own story, too, I got the motivation. Also, main menu is so creative, like you volume up and down and musucian girls' hands move on the instrument, or changing languages change birds, it is so cool and creative. But gameplay and story not so much. As other Chinese players already mentioned, gameplay is simply hard and sometimes doesn't make sense. In Sherlock Holmes games, or other detective games, you can link evidence and use your logic to come a logical conclusion, but here, it feels like finding a needle in a haystack. So make sure to play with a guide, then you will enjoy this game. And story, well, it is not actually bad, but dialogoes could be better, or IDK, maybe it is a translator's fault not being able to deliver better translation. Anyway, I am not regretting buying this game.

Bless whoever come up with this art style! I'm rarely play game like this because it such a pain to go here and there asking, and can only save after you finish a day, so if you mess up you have to replay EVERY step. And go through so much other pain just to finish this, like watching Chinese playthrough, draw every words in gg trans when I get stuck, hoping to find the clue to continue. I wish the developer give or sell the complete guide, I want to max trust with Nan Chau, help Ko Yuh-hung and San-niang be friend etc T.T

The artwork is stunning, and I love the storyline as well as the mechanisms! The scroll map is stunning and interesting. I am looking forward to other works by this studio.
