Cassette Beasts

Comparing this game to pokemon feels like underselling it, it's no question in how unique it is from the pokemon games. The 2v2 being default for fights, the type reactions causing status effects instead of just simple damage, the relationship system, the open world, the story, all of it is so amazing, and the music? The world's best cherry on top, I've listened to is so much outside of this game, and will likely buy the a copy of it soon. My only possible complaint is that the end game is a bit grind-ey, but it's not a huge hurdle, and I am looking forward to buying 2002 as soon as it comes out, everyone involved in this game should feel proud, and I recommened a try to anyone who likes games

Game is pretty fun, easier to pick up than modern Pokemon titles because the game doesn't aggressively hold your hand. High difficulty was actually a slight challenge because of the mechanics. I ignored most of the companion story paths, but the whole archangel plot is actually pretty unique.

Pokemon like, but instead of the newer hand-holdy pokemon games today it is a love letter to the older crowd of pokemon fans, despite what the art style may give the vibes of. The game plays in a more challenging way, it encourages encounters, it encourages playing with various travel companions. I do wish the multiplayer was more involved; it'd replace the travel companion instead of we can play together, but all of our fights are separate. otherwise, the gameplay is fun, rewarding, and the story is very interesting. If you're a fan of Arthurian myth, I cannot recommend you get yourself a copy soon enough! The creatures are great too, and "remastering" them, makes it so you get something different based on how you play with them. Great Game!!

A cute little creature-collector RPG. You get absolutely flooded with resources, able to purchase virtually anything you want later on, or rather, anything you can carry. There's a good variety in the creatures and moves, the way the elements interact is more than just extra damage as well. A very good, thoughtful touch there. The game also includes the ability to fuse any two creatures together, quite an impressive collection of extra "creatures" that way. I think there are a few balance issues, the higher level you get, the more the enemies damage you by percentage of your bar. Your defense just doesn't scale with their offense. There's a ton of side content to do, and once you've beaten the game, you even unlock the ability to have custom hard-core difficulty, and randomization. Story is cute, if a bit idyllic at points. The idea of a dimensional nexus that Isekais people from all over is not new, but fairly well done here. Ultimately, one of the better "not quite Pokemon" games out there that does plenty to set itself apart from 'that OTHER franchise'. Enough that, if you like this style of game, this should keep you happy. Especially with the impressive post-game.
