VERDICT Decarnation is a game that uses horror less as a way to scare you and more as a way to explore trauma, desire, shame, and human vulnerability. Its surreal presentation makes the experience particularly memorable, while the story gradually becomes much darker than its initial premise suggests. It's not necessarily an easy game to digest, but that's also what makes it stand out as an experience rather than simply another horror game. 4/5

I've had a lot of fun playing this game. The art is very detailed and I liked it a lot. I really loved how things were portrayed in the game, the emotions, exploration of the inner world, etc. I do wish there were more puzzles/mini-games at a more challenging level as well throughout the gameplay but I didn't mind. Overall I strongly recommend, the game felt very insightful! :)

Good game. Too short and too much of a walking simulator for its price point, but the aesthetics (both visual and audio) are phenomenal and the story is fairly interesting. I'd specifically recommend it when it is on a discount, but it was a fun playthrough and my playtime is not reflective of the full time spent playing it.

I loved this game! I am someone who enjoys more casual games with good puzzles and storylines and to be completely honest this was the PERFECT game in all of the things i expect a good psychological horror to be. It touches on so much and keeps it so realistic in how these things go, how hard and rough it is, the resilience and the fear. I was hooked the entire time i played it and i genuinely could not recommend this game enough if you like games with heavy story and real characters.

~ This is more of a neutral placement, with a small tilt towards no ~ The game's visual presentation is wonderful and the pixel art is a treat for the eyes. But when it comes to being a horror game I have to say it has not quite what I would consider to be scary. It is absolutely a touch unnerving at some portions, but these sections are so generally short that the unnerving aspect ends up coming across as effectively as an ill timed jumpscare. The story of the game itself is also quite interesting, but only if you actually take the time to analyze the aspects of each section's presentation. The game early on does a lot of attempts to make you think that you've gotten back to a sense of normalcy before whisking you away again. As for gameplay, this game is more of a walking simulator than a puzzle game. While there are puzzles and rhythm sections to break up the walking, they are not quite enough to be able to make up for the fact that you will be walking around for about 4 of the 5 hours you'll be playing this for. TLDR: Great visuals with an alright story concept depending on how much you look into it, but lacking on interesting gameplay or meaningful horror elements.

The art and music are a treat for the senses, but ultimately this project is not good at being a game nor an interesting story. The gameplay is not difficult, and failure makes any given section easier, but there is no fun to be found during these interactive segments. Tie that in with uninspired dialogue, one-note characters, and a completely predictable plot, and you get Decarnation. Granted, it looks like this was the studio's first project, and I'm sure they've grown and improved their abilities since making this game. I'll keep my eye on their next game, Tokens, and see where they head from there.
