About Spiral
Spiral is a third-person narrative exploration game that shares a poetic vision of cognitive degeneration. Step into the shoes of Bernard as you help him and support him while braving his unravelling mind and reliving his most treasured moments.
Somewhere in the distance, the sound of a train whistle can be heard. You’re meant to be somewhere, but you’re not quite ready. A staircase lies before you, doors that feel vaguely familiar are scattered along it and leading you further down…what adventures will they take you on?
Meet Bernard Penfield…writer-at-heart, introspective soul, roleplaying-veteran, professional dog-petter, comforts-of-home lover -- and your companion throughout this story! Walk alongside Bernard as you help him navigate the increasing instability of his mind and reconnect him with memories from his past.
Navigate the years as you experience Bernard’s story through 5 different stages of life; from the imagination and wonder of childhood to forging friendships in teenagehood, from the struggles of adulting to growing wiser.
What would our fondest memories be without the people who helped make them? Find peace at the Penfield cabin during cozy family campfires and fishing trips, or explore the enchanting library lovingly taken care of by Bernard’s mom. Spend lazy, sunny days flying kites with Bern’s childhood friend Emily and let your imagination run wild during thrilling Castles & Creatures games with a crew of charming kids who’ll win your heart.
Everything has a beginning, a middle and an end. As you progress further into Bernard’s mind, the cognitive degeneration begins altering his perspective. Affecting everything from how Benard tells his story to how you play the game. See the visuals and hear the music slip through your fingers while you try to grasp what's left of his memories. Be there for him, remember him, and tell him when he won't be able to do it himself. Fulfill Bernard’s wish by helping him to remember, even when he cannot. Explore memories to their fullest and discover moments hidden in plain sight to strengthen Bernard’s connection to his mind and slow down the degeneration.

Absolutely underrated. Started slow but then I slowed down. And well, it broke me. Thank you very much for creating this.3 found this helpful
Very boring and tedious. The movement is unreasonably slow and clunky. Story is not engaging. If you make game about old people don't make the player become one.2 found this helpful
A short, but heartfelt story of a man reliving his memories. As someone whose grandma has dementia, this resonated with me a lot. A strange (but great) mix of cozy and melancholy1 found this helpful
Spiral is a heartfelt exploration of life's most meaningful moments, seen through the lens of someone facing cognitive degeneration. Its carefully crafted visuals, poignant soundtrack, and narrative depth make it a compelling experience for those looking for more than just action and adventure in their games. While it has minor flaws in its gameplay, they are easily outweighed by the depth and beauty of its story. Whether or not you have a personal connection to its themes, Spiral is a game that deserves your time and attention, offering an emotional journey that will stay with you long after you put down the controller.1 found this helpful
and then the screen turned black..sobbing
I haven't beaten it yet. Still working on it. But so far, the game is emotionally so relatable in the beginning. The soundtrack is perfectly done. The game is buggy but Im pretty sure the developers are working on it. (Fell through the floor, got stuck by ai, fighting scene froze) So Ill continue the game when they do an update on it :) They are an amazing bunch of developers and definitely deserve the love because of the passion they put in this :)
