Simon the Sorcerer Origins

"Not my idea of fun" sums it up perfectly, unfortunately.

It's a lovely game, really. The developer's have gotten the dry, sarcastic tone exactly right. The art, music and voice acting are fantastic. Stumbling block is the obscurity of some of the puzzles and a lack of guidance on what to do next. A few more dialogue hints, and a few fewer red herrings, would have improved the experience.

As a huge fan of the original "Simon the Sorcerer" which at the time (1991?) was bundled with Return To Zork; I have to say THIS is not it. I do not usually quit games, but the difficulty of this one sucks big time. Unfortunately, Simon has something to say about a lot of things that apparently have no use in the game. A frozen student, a puzzled troll, a student reading the bulletin board... yet, they're there for nothing? Simon misguides you throughout the game, and the lack of intuitive hints makes this feel like pulling teeth. I'm certain most people who played this had to sort to online walkthroughs.. Me, I'm not a walkthrough person, I need you to give me a reliable in-game hint system. Simon at some point says he's not even going to get close to some pouring sewer substance then all of a sudden he freezes it to reach something else above? Nope, this is simply not it. I might have quit I'm not sure just yet. Terrible prequel.

Found all the owls - can't get past it - frustrating.
