About The House On Holland Hill
The House On Holland Hill is a 15-20 minute visual novel, originally made during an Idle Thumbs gamejam.
You assume the role of Luigi, a zesty food delivery driver, and your first delivery takes you to a newly-built house outside of town. It's an imposingly modern villa, like one you would see on ArchDaily's Instagram account; Smooth angular surfaces, a big driveway, lots of windows to peek into... You have a chat with the charismatic owner, hand over the food, and get on your way.
Before long, you start to receive more orders from this address. You develop a rapport with the home owners, and over time, you start to get the impression that not all is well behind the front door of The House On Holland Hill.

I loved the flat, hand drawn characters against the 3d environments. It's such a cool way of stylizing the game. It also does get properly creepy and the mystery of what's going on in the titular house definitely kept me invested the whole way through!
I like the format of telling a story via multiple food deliveries and I like the contrast of colorful 2d character models over shadowy 3D backgrounds. That said, the game feels somewhat repetitive despite its short runtime and I wish there were more consequential choices throughout the story. Still I think this is a solid story for lower priced game.
Playing this game reminded me of watching a Blumhouse style horror movie. What starts as mundane day to day life suddenly takes an unexpected turn. There's great use of lighting and atmosphere here. I would love to see what other short storied Hedgefield has to tell with these short interactive experiences.
Quirky, funny, tense, contained and short indie experience with a neat style and some great lighting that ends on an amusing note. 100% in ~1h, should've gotten this in a sale tbh but still not outrageously overpriced. (6.5/10)
A very short horror story that will not satisfy all but for those willing to take a chance, there are some nuggets here to be enjoyed. I've played worst that cost way more and weren't nearly as entertaining.
A really short and...okay game. I like the character art a lot and the story is fine. Nothing too special. Two runs took a little over 30mins. Recommended if you like the art, want something short and a little spooky, it's on sale, or you just have an extra $2 sitting around.
