About Signals

Signals is a casual strategy game where you lead the search to repair alien devices and follow mysterious signals to find its source and what lays at the end. Your quest has been funded by the ALAN corporation who see your mission as an opportunity to spread across the galaxy.

Only through your funding with the ALAN corporation will you be able to finance your expedition and find where the signals are coming from and what their purpose is.

In order to fund your mission, you must set up a network of outposts across hundreds of planets, harvesting their resources and strategically working with the market to maximize your income. Maintain a positive cash flow to ensure that all your upkeep costs are covered and your progress doesn’t come to a halt.

Only through your management, will your quest be successful. Manage harvesters and buildings, making certain they are kept powered, in order to expand further in your sector of space. This enables you to find more valuable resources and upgrade buildings to increase their efficiency.
  • Embark on a journey to discover the source of mysterious signals across five chapters, each with their own challenges and objectives.
  • Manage your operation, ensuring a positive cash flow while covering upkeep and maximizing your income by working with the galactic market.
  • Build harvesters, farms, water treatment plants, research facilities and more to aid you in your search.
  • Travel across systems and harvest each planet’s valuable materials to fund your operation.
  • An additional game mode that contains procedurally generated galaxies, for endless replayability.
  • Share your favorite seeds while maximising your harvesting efficiency to achieve higher scores to challenge your friends.

Game is fun. Very short, campaign is a couple of hours and pretty easy to figure out optimal strategy. Market feature is engaging though. Not a bad buy on sale. For achievement hunters, note that two of the cheevos appear to be busted now; can't complete the weekly change or improve score on same seed. If that were fixed would give wholehearted thumbs up here.

Solid "meh" It is not a bad game, but very casual gamer type game. Very basic civ builder, more like an idle game for a phone.

Passable game I decided to not recommend. Content of the game is very limited, you can finish campaign in less than three hours, leaving you with "skirmish" maps. The idea is good, but there is just not enough content - 7 buildings, of which 4 you will be building just on the main planet. Generally you will cover all planets with solar panels and extractors. You will do the same with main planet, but then add few farms and domes and research center (no, there is no research in the game, it is just condition to finish mission). And thats all, game over. The UI is not exactly effective, resources are hard to see. Not terrible game and might appeal to casual gamer, but thats it. The fact that only 5.5 percent of players finished (3 hours) campaign is quite indicative.

Signals started in an interesting fashion; dig materials to rebuild the device and move to the next sector; then the second and third levels bring on a time limit, and no further game mechanics are added. This leaves the game feeling shallow and empty, nothing to change stakes; in fact the stakes even lower once the second half of the game has no time limit. While this makes the game relaxing, it also leaves there not a lot there. There is a daily level you can play, but personally it takes too long for the enjoyment factor, as it encourages you to visit every single planet to try and gain the high score; which could take hours to do optimally. I have to not recommend from the lack of depth.

I wanted to like it, and it has some fun ideas. But the whole user experience feels very indistinct and vague. Half of the resources look the same on the map or with slight recolours, and feel like random mcguffins required for the plot rather than purposeful and different; the need to the put the trade post first isn't intuitive (maybe the first planet should start with one?) and the sense of base building or progression from extraction to research isn't there; and research buildings don't indicate the need for adjacency or build limits. There are just things and mechanics that exist in the game without being explained, and it doesn't make a lot of sense nor make for gameplay I found enjoyable. It all made for a rather confusing experience, and even after watching the campaign playthrough I didn't find it as fun as I expected from the description.

A pleasing aesthetic with chill tunes, but felt pretty lacking in gameplay and variety. It got pretty stale after about an hour, having completed four of the six "campaign" missions, and I just wasn't compelled enough to see the last couple of missions through. What it does, it does well, but there's just not enough meat on the bone.
