About The Aching
The Aching is a graphical horror adventure game from the demented mind of the Lobdegg, heavily inspired by the old graphic adventure games Sierra and LucasArts released in the 1980s. This title features low resolution 16-color graphics adhering to the extremely limited hardware of the era. Gameplay is driven by a combination of arrow keys and a classic-style parser. Whatever you wish your character to do, merely type it into the prompt and hit Enter.
You play as a pale creature who awakens in a cave with no clue as to your identity or current situation beyond a small locket and a patch of cave wall painted in what you hope is red paint. Now you must explore this other world trying to find answers about your past.The engine behind The Aching was designed to run on an actual Tandy 1000 computer off of a single floppy disk. For modern computers we emulate the Tandy 1000 environment so that the intended experience can be enjoyed with or without access to one of these old, and now rare, computers.

Great little throwback to a now-archaic style of games that goes the extra mile by being programmed in DOS. Not incredibly long or complex, though the typing-based interaction can be quickly tiring if you find it unintuitive. Lot's of neat little graphical flairs and interesting lore. Don't be afraid to reference the walkthrough in the guides if you get stuck. It's an audio-visual treat regardless.1 found this helpful

A fun, short text-parser adventure game in a cool dark fantasy setting, with great EGA-style art and some really interesting creature designs. Puzzles are well-designed, too. Hope the proposed follow-ups get made!
Truly legit old-school-inspired adventure game. I think the vaguely-Lovecraftian feel of the game's atmosphere is one of its strongest qualities. The world feels FLESHed out and real, you can honestly believe more of it exists outside the select portion you get to see. Admittedly, it is a pretty small portion. The entire game feels a bit like the first chapter of a longer story. But honestly, it's enjoyable enough that its brevity didn't really bother me that much. It also has an interesting twist on the typical death mechanic, more NPC interaction than most other games of its kind, and maybe most importantly, I managed to beat the whole thing without resorting to cheating, which isn't something I can say about most of the games Aching takes inspiration from.
