Halt, developed and published by Nightmare Ink Publishing, is a compact yet unsettling indie horror experience that understands the weight of atmosphere better than many larger productions. Rather than relying on cinematic jump scares or explosive terror, it builds its fear slowly, through shadow, silence, and uncertainty. You play as an investigator drawn into a string of unexplained disappearances, each reportedly occurring while the victims slept. From the moment the game begins, it signals that this will not be a power fantasy—you are not a soldier or a monster hunter, but an ordinary person tasked with navigating situations that feel fundamentally wrong. The game leans into psychological unease, giving the sense that the world itself has tilted slightly off-center, and that the more you learn, the more vulnerable you become. What immediately defines Halt is its minimalist pixel-art presentation combined with a limited lighting system. Nearly everything outside your flashlight’s beam is swallowed by darkness, forcing you to control not only where you walk but where you look. The game is certainly not bad, but there is one drawback - it is too light, if it were made a little darker it would be much more atmospheric.

Some issues I noticed: - Enemies will not unfocus the player once the player is spotted - Enemies walk in a straight line towards the player, even running into walls - Pressing space crashes the game - Enemies killed with the pistol seem to magically come back to life - The game doesn't seem to reset global variables after the player dies, so the player can just continue to walk through doors that require fuses after collecting the fuses and dying - I was unable to beat level 4 because it required me to collect 3 fuses to reach the end, but the last fuse was mysteriously not present The game does not feel like it was playtested at all, and the gameplay present just doesn't justify dealing with everything else it has going on, because it consists of walking through dark rooms and crouching while occasionally baiting enemies around corners due to you having no ammo for the gun you were given. $4.99 feels like a bit of a scam for a game that crashes when you press the spacebar. Also, I did not see the game have any puzzles from the levels I was able to play.
