About Rogue Voltage

Craft your own skills by wiring up modules. Some generate energy, others amplify or store it, and others convert it into effects. Pick from over 150 unique modules to construct crazy machines, discover devastating synergies, and create overpowered builds.Connect the right modules and watch chaos unfold: Energy cascades through your circuits, triggering satisfying chain reactions. Feel like a mad scientist as you tinker, experiment, and discover new ways to amplify your power.Every turn you have to decide where you want to put your energy: Into your blaster module? Do you have to crack a healing potion? Or do you store energy in a battery to prepare an even bigger move next turn? Turns can be tactically pushed and pulled forward or backward in time: Dodge volcano eruptions and lightning strikes, slip before your enemies on the timeline or throw them into a devastating Grav-Spike.
Your adventure leads you through strange biomes where tricky enemies try to ruin your day. Compose your racks wisely to deal with the procedurally generated and progressively dangerous threats.
Between runs, return to your camp to upgrade buildings and unlock permanent progression. Store your favorite modules, expand your collection, and even build your own custom character.

(Caveat: I have only played the beginning of the game, but I'm not done yet. I may have more details to add later.) That really isn't how physics works. Really. Out there a quantum physicist is crying many many tears. But I don't really care, this is a fun roguelike that uses different colours of electricity and a lot of gravity stuff to make its postapocalyptic scenario work. Energy management is the key. You have it when you have it, not before and not after (there are some ways to store it but most energy dissipates if not used). So you may need to plan the current turn AND the next one in order to know what you can make use of. Character health is incredibly low, but there's a good selection of healing options. Meta-progression is done by upgrading your camp, and the mechanics around that strongly encourage you to do a little bit at a time, giving a truly progressive feeling to the game. There are a few things that aren't clearly enunciated (for example, when does your "one free reroll" become available again? Is it one per run, one per section of a run?), but for the most part, the game makes clear what you need to do.

Enjoying my time with the game, as it has a lot of original and interesting mechanics that lead to some creative play, and can be satisfying when your builds come together. I have most of the characters unlocked, and the variety is welcome. Pros: beautiful art style, plays well on controller/steam deck, module unlocks and some meta progression and character unlocks to grind for. Adjustable difficulty, with beginner being perfect for learning the ropes while still providing a challenge. Cons: music/soundtrack is a miss. I like the minimalist approach, however some of the droney shrill one note sounds (like at base during runs) is actually annoying and doesn’t do the game justice. Also, without some rogue tropes, like choosing passives or relics etc during runs, there isn’t as much variety in feel between runs as I hoped, as it’s primarily up to rng modules you pick up along the way to define your builds. Overall, I plan to spend more time with the game, as it’s an enjoyable cozy vibe that feels unique and well designed, a solid debut, with some room for improvement, but still worth the time if you find the premise cool. Would love to see this foundation built on further.

If you like inventory management battling (e.g. like backpack battles / backpack heroes) with a emphasis on combo building, this one is for you.

Im so glad i didn't have anything to do after I found this. I love rougelikes even if i am terrible at them, and I beat my first run at 15hrs, take that for what you will.

After finishing my first complete run (All the way to the unlockable "Final Chapter" to not spoil the name), I have enjoyed this game to no end. I bought it part of a bundle with another wiring game, intending to buy the other one and try this one out on the side. I did not expect to like it... and yet this one is the game I actually came to really enjoy, and the other was nowhere near as engaging. This game has a very simple sort of loop at first, wire this, charge that, next turn discharge that, wire into this, simple sorts of things. However, as you play and unlock more modules the depth of build strategy and sheer puzzle-yness of your own build state becomes very engaging. You want to figure out how to wire all the things together for the perfect turn, and you feel like a genius when you figure it out. The feature to hold shift or toggle a step-by-step mode in the pause screen allows for even more complex maneuvers on your turns. While i do feel that the game can become a bit repetitive (and on normal difficulties, is relatively easy), the fact that your entire rack, not just one item, becomes so fun to play around with and tinker with to improve makes it very worth it for th…
