Pompeii: The Legacy

As always, the most difficult reviews to write are for games that come so close to greatness (and with over 170 thousand games on Steam, believe you me, competition is tough) but just miss by an inch. That's the case for Pompeii: The Legacy... which is certainly a sincerely developed, genuine, professionally made game (that alone seems like a rarity). Just like it says on the box, this is a historical city builder game following on (ripping off?) games like Ceasar, Nova Roma, Pax Augusta, Grand Ages: Rome, Civ City: Rome... hang on, there's an awful lot of Roman city builders, aren't there? Like I said... competition is stiff, even if you drill down to this very very specific genre! This game is a declarative builder... that is, you put down where you think buildings should be and your population does the building, leaving you to go click around other places while the little guys do all the work and consume the resources. Your job as the governor/mayor/whatever is to juggle resources, keep people happy, choose the right kind of buildings to build and where... and of course avoid all the lava. Pompeii, after all. I can't give this a positive review... there's so many games…

While Pompeii: The Legacy is a work in progress, I would be remiss if I didn't give it a thumbs up review. I've played it for more than 100 hours and I must point out that the developer is very approachable and responsive. Pompeii: The Legacy is a labor of love for him and he genuinely wants to create a great game. Unlike another Roman city builder out there, the game does not require that you purchase a new computer or graphics card just to play it. I love city builders and Pompeii: The Legacy is one I will keep.

It is certainly a tribute to old classics city builders. It surely was made with love. There are some problems with optimizations but... It really made an old timer like me feels at home. 7.5/10.

So far the game is quite boring and easy to me. I will try it a bit longer...

tiny game from tiny team, but very relaxing. not much to do, a bit buggy (but nothing gamebreaking at all), framerate suffers from larger cities. but overall, if you like relaxed city builders like Ceasar, this is an affordable fix.

전반적으로 릴랙싱 되면서, 잔잔한 느낌의 게임이었다. 캠페인을 따라가는 것도 재미 있었고 도시가 발전하는 걸 보는 것도 즐거웠다. 인디게임이긴 하나, 앞으로 발전 가능성이 크다고 본다. 그럼에도 부정적인 리뷰를 남겨야 하는 이유를 몇가지 적겠다. -UI 비직관성, 도무지 도시의 생산 소비,출입이 어떻게 이뤄지고 있는지 한눈에 알기 힘들다, 그때그때 알림을 받을 때 생산해주면 너무 늦다. 그렇다고 생산을 소비보다 높이 두자니 창고가 꽉 차 알림에 피로를 느끼게 된다. -무역 시스템 활용의 불친절성, 위의 UI 문제와 더불어 내가 교역을 시행했을 때, (무역으로 인한 증감이 UI에 반영이 되었으면 좋겠다) 임의로 설정했다가 재고가 바닥나거나, 수출입 적자가 발생해 더이상 플레이 할 수 없어 재시작을 한게 몇번째인지 모른다. -오버레이 또한 실망스럽다. 시저3 경우 오버레이를 통해 어디가 수요가 더 많고 어디가 적음이 명약관화했다. -세가지 주민 주거시설이 무엇을 요구하는지가 불명확하다. 그래서 도시설계에 시행착오를 좀 겪어야 했다. -크래시 및 불안정성으로 인해 종종 게임 도중 장애를 겪어야 했다. 내 PC는 결코 저사양은 아님에도. 일단은 묵혀둘 생각이다, 후에 개선 또는 대규모 업데이트가 있으면 다시 해보고 싶다. 이 게임은 잠재력이 충분한 게임이다. Overall, it was a relaxing and peaceful game. Following the campaign was fun, and I really enjoyed watching the city grow and develop. Even though it's an indie title, I see a lot of potential for future growth. Despite all that, I feel compelled to leave a negative review for a few key reasons: -Unintuitive UI: It is nearly impossible to get a clear, at-a-glance overview of the city's production, consumption, and resource flows.
