About Ufouria: The Saga 2

Upyo! How's everyone been?
SUNSOFT's Ufouria is back!

- An authentic evolution of the original "Ufouria"!

Rampage through the fluffy feltwork arts-and-crafts recreation of the world of Ufouria, with your trusty crew from the original game in this exploration-based action side-scroller. Of course, newcomers to Ufouria are welcome too!

- Adventure in the lovingly crafted wacky world of Ufouria!

Familar characters and stages of the original game are back, transformed from their formal pixel art to charming handmade feltwork. Iron bead artwork also plays homage to the nostalgic pixelated look of the original.
Look for all the similarities and differences if you've played the original before!

- Different courses each time you play!?

The various stages from the original game now change randomly every time your enter, making for a fresh new challenge each time! New characters joining your crew let you reach more areas. You might even find areas that weren't in the original game at all...

- Popoons are now a super powerful cleaning agent!

A new threat, one that wasn't in the original...the icky Bumyon makes an appearance! The troublesome Bumyon sticks to everything and everyone and is quite the annoyance, but somehow Hebe and crews can counteract them perfectly with their Popoons. Clean up the Bumyons that litter the planet and thwart the Utsujin's evil plans!
  • Visit the never before seen Hebe's house!
  • Meet rare characters that were only ever seen before in Ufouria art books!
  • A Collection feature lets you read up on enemies and their backgrounds!

It's a very cute game, but ultimately a let down for fans of the first game.

I don't have much of a connection to the original game. I watched an LP of it and liked it. It was a quirky and surreal metroidvania. The short version is that it is a solid sequel that has a lot of the charm of the original. The long version is that hard core fans of the original will probably be discontent with it and it is expensive for such a short game. Ufouria 2 follows Hebeke, a humanoid penguin who sees a UFO 1 day. He follows it and finds an alien bent on dirtying the land. Hebeke then goes on a silly adventure to save his friends and the land. The translation is rather solid and got a few chuckles out of me. The game is a fairly traditional platformer that has different setups of each level Hidden in the stage are cans that are needed to restock the vending machine back in the hub area. They are not optional as this is how special abilities are gathered, as well as expanding health. Upgrades are expensive, though I was able to afford everything with an hour or 2 of grinding. And heading right I was close to 700-1000 coins per run due to completing challenges and repeating bosses. The down part is that the bulk of the upgrades aren't fully used or explored. So it feels …

I went into this game blindly without knowing it was a sequel to another game and I have to say; I am glad that I did. The cast is lovely, the visuals are charming, the music is nice, and the gameplay is alright. I'll probably be getting the original once it goes on sale and I suggest that if you're interested in this game and the first one, go for it!

pretty good, but i kinda wish the game was more open

An NES game made in the modern era. It's experimental and weird, but also simple and short. It acts as if the last 35 years of video games didn't happen. There's little localization here, just translation. It's in English, but the characters are speaking a different cultural language. The aesthetics are top notch creative and unique. I sometimes left the game running to go to the bathroom, and when I came back was surprised at how good it looked. If the stuff above sounds good to you, you should buy it. You're going to like it. One tip, do not go for 100% completion. Put it down when you feel like you've had enough.

A fun enough but extremely short platformer "roguelike" with unique concepts and a very cute artstyle. The game can be beaten in a few hours, so I recommend getting it only when it is on sale. Also, if you are planning on going for 100% achievements, only purchase the non-essential items AFTER you are holding 50k coins at once as it will save you an hour or two of mindless grinding (you can thank me later).
